Yeah, remakes don't always suck no matter what people say. I thought Snyder's version was more tense and better in terms of pure horror.
Same here. Romeros version is great too though.

24

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

Second best Romero film. The special effects look a bit dated now, but the performances and music are great.

23

Fright Night (1985)

My third favorite vampire film after The Lost Boys and Let The Right One In. An eighties classic which should never have been remade.

I love the prom sequence and Spacek's performance in Carrie, but I don't love the movie.

I don't typically think of Misery as a horror movie, but it's very good nonetheless. I owe it a re-watch, since I haven't seen it in over a decade.

Don't care for The Fog or John Carpenter movies in general. Never seen any of the [REC] movies, even though I've heard nothing but great things.

Night of the Living Dead is by far the best Romero film, in my opinion, and still the best zombie film ever made. (28 Days Later is my personal favorite, but I guess technically those aren't zombies, so it doesn't count.)

I've had Fright Night on my DVR for months but still haven't gotten around to it.

Two of my all time favorites.

Night of the Living Dead is one of the very first movies I can remember watching as an infant. It was probably instrumental in making me a big horror fan.

I saw Fright Night at the movies when it came out, and have loved it ever since. You're right about the remake.

+ rep for both, though I'm not much of a fan of Fright Night. I was quite surprised to see how much of a cult classic it was. But then, I guess that's the point of a cult classic.

Night Of The Living Dead is, of course, brilliant and well deserving of its place.

22

A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)

A fun and cheesy eighties classic which spawned one of the most iconic characters in horror - the crispy child killer Freddy Krueger

21

An American Werewolf In London (1981)

One of the best British horrors ever, the quintessential werewolf film.

Yes! I knew An American Werewolf in London would be on your list, although I thought it would be a bit higher. But I have a feeling already about a couple that should definitely make your Top 5.

Yay! somebody else talked about a Nightmare on Elm Street that movie isn't cheesy, it's pure horror-slasher-ghost-movie-magic. nobody better bring up Ronee Blakley's acting as Marge Thompson, that's the stuff Academy Awards are made of

Yes, An American Werewolf in London should be in the top ten.

But great to see it make your list. My favorite werewolf movie for sure. Nightmare in great too.

20

Ringu (1998)

The Japanese always make the scariest films (and food).

19

The Return of the Living Dead (1985)

A cult classic comedy horror and my favorite zombie film. BRAINS!

Let the night air cool you off
Not a fan of Return of the Living Dead... at all.

I still haven't seen Ringu, I should remedy that. The gif you posted for it is creepy enough.

Ring was really good. Not sure you should've posted that gif though, SFS. Not a spoiler, per se, but the pinnacle of the film.

Two more good choices, though.

Yeah, I'm glad I didn't know that was going to happen the first time I saw it. So much more effective that way.

The last four movies are great. I can't wait for the horror challenge. I'll be rewatching a lot of this list.
