Alert! Spoilers ahead!
The main character is described richly, as well as another characters. "Flashbacks" are very important as the movie takes a place in 3 different time spaces, but I understand that you might not like them. Movie's composition is not completely closed but opened for interpretations. For example the ending. Also, you can see a lap composition of the movie. Moreover, in the movies of Sergio Leone the characters and protagonists are neither absolutely lawful or absolutely evil. They have both good and bad features. That's why Noodles raped both Carol and Deborah, which were women and, that's true, were kinda devalued, but that's because of the place and especially the times the movie takes place in. Remember that the movie takes place in 1932/33 and characters ARE gangsters. Anyway, rape scene has been portrayed very well, even if it was kind of disturbing. End of spoilers!
Could and probably should have written a lot more, but that's all for now. Could you write down your favourite gangster/mafia movie titles? Not malicious, just curious. And now, your top 10:
1. 2001: A Space Odyssey - 7/10 - perhaps I should give it another try?
2. Sansho the Bailiff - 10/10 - supreme masterpiece - full agreement
3. Trouble in Paradise - N/A
4. Rio Bravo - I haven't seen too much westerns, this movie is not exception, but I guess it's a good movie. Maybe I should watch it?
5. Last Year at Marienbad - that's the cinema I love. You can find it in my TOP too, but honestly besides top 3 titles my top is collusive (have seen a lot of great movies and really can't judge the order) - 10/10
6. Persona - Ingmar Bergman - that's all you'd like to know - 10/10
7. The Thin Red Line - pretty good war drama - 9/10
8. Synecdoche, New York - have to see this one
9. The Terrorizers - is it an Asian movie from '86? Well, it could be good...
10. Maborosi - haven't seen neither, but I will, I will...
