The story initially appears to suggest that the elderly woman wanted her family to join her in death, but it was so much more than that, but Ari Aster's pacing of the story is just too deliberate to sustain interest and about 2/3 of the way through the film, I found myself checking my watch.

I try my best not to go into a movie with expectations, but when a film garners rave reviews for being terrifying, unnerving and one of the year's best films, it's hard to not get somewhat excited.

The way the actual plot starts to move forward feels silly and forced and as the film gets closer to the end that applies to pretty much everything related to the plot.

All the moving parts are different pieces of puzzle needed for the ritual to be complete.In the end, unbeknownst to X her mother makes her part of the ritual because they are part of same hereditary.

It doesn't rely on jump scares at all, and actually the first half (maybe even closer to two-thirds) of the film plays out more as a drama film than a horror film.
