Unfortunately, the film spends a lot of time in the middle act, which follows the man and woman spending the day at the city, going to the games, getting a haircut, buying clothes.

Whether it's a pulse-pounding sequence of the man rowing his wife out to the middle of a lake while their frantic dog howls inconsolably, or a quietly sweet moment where the couple watches as a young man and young woman get married in a church, this movie has great emotional frequency.

One of the most beautiful techniques in the film is a flowing scene transition, where the man and woman are walking away from us and the background morphs into a different set.
