Transformers 2

Well the new transformers movie just started up. I liked the first one even though it was a little long. Hopefully the 2nd pulled off what the first did. What are your views on this.

Re: Transformers 2

Thread moved to proper location-

Still very little accurate info for this film. Bay has gone on record saying the studio has released several false rumors/leaks about the content of the film, in order to throw off the internet rumor mill.

That said, the film is indeed in production. Let's hope they raise the level of quality on this one, as I was pretty underwhelmed at the first...

Re: Transformers 2

DreamWorks/Paramount has confirmed that the full title for Michael Bay's sequel will be Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.

The movie began shooting on June 2nd in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. While details of the movie's plot a closely-guarded secret, expect a key character from the first movie to make a dramatic comeback and attempt to settle a score.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen is scheduled for a June 26, 2009 release.

Re: Transformers 2

That title is obviously bulls**t, No offense. Anyway, I think the first was WAAAYYY too long considering that it wasn't a real plot-driven movie. I just don't know what more a sequel would do, maybe add some more characters or better CGI.

Sedai 06-05-08 05:45 PM

Re: Transformers 2

Better CGI? Now, I was no fan of the first film, but, the CGI was clearly top notch. You could see the little gears in the Autobots joints turning and clicking when they transformed. The last thing this franchise needs is more money and time dumped into the effects; it's about the only thing the first one got right. Maybe they should try writing an actual screenplay this time.

FILMFREAK087 06-05-08 05:58 PM

Re: Transformers 2

I never thought it was bad, I was just saying what could be different. I agree, they should actually write a real script, and not string together clunky plot devices.

The girl assigned to play the lead (which I think is more then rumour but Im not a 100% sure due to the early morning and lazyness to pick up the paper and check) is a blonde female soapy star from Australia and she is GORGEOUS! Isabel Lucas, I have no idea what her talent is beyond the physical but should still be interesting. I loved Transformers action but a more plot driven movie would be greatly apprechiated...keep that in mind producer's. Naisy knows what he wants.

They dropped the "2" in their name:

While it was previously "announced" as "Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen," Superhero Hype! has learned that DreamWorks/Paramount has opted to make it Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen instead.

In related news,
Jalopnik has posted spy photos of the new Bumblebee (the 2010 Chevy Camaro Z28) as well as an unknown Corvette concept.

Filming is currently taking place at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia for a June 26, 2009 release.

The Michael Bay-directed film stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Isabel Lucas and Rainn Wilson.

Revenge is coming....2009
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n...mshakalaka.jpg

from Comingsoon.net:

It's on display at Hasbro Headquarters in Rhode Island.

You've probably seen lots of set
photos and videos around the web from the filming for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen at Princeton, but why are they there? Director Michael Bay told New Jersey's The Times:

The university angle to the plot "is all about Sam growing up and going to college ... a teenager growing into a man," Bay said.

Bay, who said the Princeton campus reminds him of his alma mater, Wesleyan University, said he decided to put Princeton in the movie (though it won't be called Princeton) because the campus is so beautiful.

"I just love the look of the university," he said.

Meanwhile, Josh Duhamel gave
Empire Online a cryptic clue:

"I guess who he’s working with is probably the biggest change," said Duhamel, before adding once more, presumably for emphasis. "Who he's working with."

Are the rumors about "The Fallen" in the movie's subtitle true? Will the Autobots and Decepticons have to team-up to beat the powerful Fallen, one of the 13 original Transformers?

Re: Transformers 2

The first one let me know, sorta. Maybe because the memory just made the TV series feel too beautiful. I am holding myself a little bit more realistic about the second one. I hope it's good.

Re: Transformers 2

The first movie certainly hit most of the right spots... let's just hope that they don't make the usual mistake of trying to pack too many characters into the sequel. They always do this with superhero films - they keep piling on characters with every sequel, until you end up with the fiasco of Batman & Robin.

Whilst the first film wasn't a brilliant movie with too many human actors and not enough of the Transformers themselves, I liked it. Not loved, liked.
The second one from the sources I've read though has me very very nervous. Concept art looks great but possible plot scenario's are a turn off.

Seriously, I liked the first film, I'm thinking some of you guys are just constipated. It's a Transformers movie, nothing much to expect but a good reason to spend 2 hours in an air conditioned room with 200 other people in the middle of summer. CGI was great, action was packed, the plot wwas decent (I'm not expecting anything that great from a comic book movie), and best of all, MEGAN FOX!

Well, some people actually like to watch a good story on screen, not a two-hour advertisement for GM and bad writing. Regardless of the computer graphics, the story was really bad. None of the window dressing that made this film memorable helps correct the fact that it had a story that went nowhere, an actor whose most notable lines were "No, no, no no, no," and a racist streak that ran through the robot Jazz. Sequels are hardly ever better than the originals, and this is likely no exception.

To be perfectly honest I felt the first Transformers was mediocre. I'll grant that the CGI and action sequences were mind-blowing, but I hated Mr. LaBeouf, and although there's now way a male can hate Megan Fox (:p), her acting wasn't exactly brilliant.

I just wish the Transformers were like Godzilla... no human allies necessary. All robots = all win in my playbook.

This all isn't to say that I'm not looking forward to seeing this though. As I said, the action sequences and CGI in the first film were spectacular, so I'll see this if for no other reason than that it promises more of the same.

the fallen is apparently one of the very first transformers there were 13 made by primus to battle against unicron but the fallen was a seeker of power and turned against his brethen to serve and worship unicron so maybe he will be like the silver surfer is to galactus and heralding unicron for arrival in transformers 3 or perhaps its just a coincidence and the fallen just means megatron because he fell at the end of the first film its early days yet anything could happen
[ps fallens alt mode in the action figure is a tank but in the comic he doesnt transform]

I would like to know, aside from the computer images, why this movie and its sequel are receiving praise. The story had potential in the first film, but ridiculous choices in the direction of the narrative, such as bad actors, pointless sequences, and product placement, made the story "lack the sensibilities" of a good film story. It was completely driven by emotion, which did not work in its favor.

Story makes the film. If a film called is going to have a shoddy text (and subtext) but focus on computer graphics, campy scenes, and product placement, why not have a movie with nothing but computer-animated sequences set to the pace of an hour-plus-long commerical for various products? The story has to matter. This is why a film series such as the recent The Lord of the Rings is far better than a film like The Fantastic Four: both are loaded with computer effects, but the story and the acting drive the meaning behind the effects. It is not dissimilar from choosing to watch something like Brokeback Mountain or a short film titled Football in the Groin. One of these will ask the viewer to watch and think while the other simply wants the viewer to watch.

Without a good story, the second film will be no better. If someone could offer some good reasoning for a more positive review of the film, I would be very glad to read it. This is not meant as a film bashing but a "noting of the effects" of the film. Thanks in advance.

Shia LaBeouf was good in Transformers. Megan Fox was... terrible. Yeah, she's very pretty, so what? Her bad dialogue didn't help a bit though, either.

What did you like about it specifically? What makes it a good movie? I am interested in reasoning that does not include praise for the graphics, which most people can agree were great. If you could qualify your claim, that would be helpful.

Daffodil 10-06-08 01:20 AM

Re: Transformers 2

I don't really have a solid reason for liking it. I just do. I care nothing for the graphics. It's not the most "intelligent", or "artistic" movie, but what would you expect? It's Transformers. It's about giant robots trying to take over the world. And IMO, it wasn't even all that awful as some people claim it to be. The "laughably bad dialogue" was part true, in Megan Fox's case (not helped by the fact she can't act either). I know a lot of people see it as a "big budget action fest with robots", and alright, I can see now why you think that, but I thought it was enjoyable. Not great, not a nine or eight out of ten, but we've all seen worser "cheesy action" movies in our lives apart from Transformers.

And I'll admit I'm a tad biased due to the fact Shia LaBeouf was in it... so sue me. :D

So it seems that it attracts you for the novelty effect. Does that seem accurate? That would seem to be the case with a lot of people I know who like it.

I don't know if I would characterize it as "big budget action fest with robots" actually. That may paint it as "bad" on that account alone, which isn't necessarily true. People who did not like the movie likely did not want a most artistic or intelligent film but one with some more credibility of narrative, which this film lacked in a big way. This is the reason why B-movies about the prehistoric megalodon are terrible: they lack what would make them believable. I would like to think that with so much effort and resources to make a movie like this, a good story would motivate it. Part of the probelm along this line was the ridiculousness of some scenes and the small scale of the battles. At you pointed out, the acting didn't help--nor did the play on racial stereotypes.

Without the graphics, there is little holding the movie together. Sometimes, though, a particular actor or actress can encourage a wider audience to see a film. Arnold Schwarzenegger had this impact. I imagine that is also the reason why the show The Girls Next Door is watchable--it sure isn't for the overall story! I certainly am not passing judgment on your opinion, but I am still looking for some positions as to why the film is a good one.

Thanks for your perspective.

It's not the best made film out there, and whether or not it is "good", is a matter of opinion I think. I just thought it was entertaining, despite the annoying stereotypes, bad acting and more. But I respect your opinion and I can see why you (and many others) don't like it.

First one was alright. I didn't love it though. Meh, a second one I would definitely see, but I hope it's better than the first one.

What about the story did you like?

Transformers was alright, I was impressed with the fact they brought Peter Cullen back to do the voice of Optimus Prime. I was disappointed thought they could get Frank Welkner (Megatron, Soundwave, Skywarp, Lazerbeak, Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage, and Buzzsaw ) And that pissed me off a little more about it that SoundWave was not in the movie what so ever, all they had was the crappy little radio robot.

I just hope that the second movie has a decent story, and it involves Unicron, Galvatron, and more of Star Scream.

Oh, and I was not too impressed with the way they "modernized" some of the characters.

Saying it doesn't make it so: what made it "great" and "amazing"? Graphics aside, what else makes it worth anyone's time? Having asked this question many times, I know that defense of this movie is general because nothing really noteworthy represents this film other than the animted material. But I am open to hearing what makes the movie "great."

I should say that I would like to read more about why it was good to particular people. There were moments I liked, but the overall movie lacked depth for me to recommend it.

I thought the first movie was decent, nothing special. I do want to see this, but I much prefer the 80's film, much better in every way. In my eyes at least.

Omega Supreme, maybe? Just guessing.

I saw Ravage! He looked bad ass.

I will have to ignore the scenes with dialogue, once again.

I watched the 80s version recently; I turned it off halfway through. The soundtrack was just too unbearable. I loved it when it was released... I didn't even get any nostalgia from it this time round. Its time has passed.

Oh in addition to 80s Transformers being a milestone of my childhood I also just love the irony of Orson Welles playing a giant, planeteating globe in his last movie.

Shocking, I love it, about 10,000000000000000x better than the new movie. O+I also watched both recently, I have the 80's movie on Blu-ray watched it last week, still love it and the new one again yesterday on HD DVD, no where near as good as the 80's movie. The soundtrack in the 80's movie kicks ass. I used to have the main theme as my ring tone. Now it's the Steel Samurai theme from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorny.

I really cant wait for this movie to come out. After seeing the first one, I was pretty amazed. I havent seen a movie as great as Transformers in a while. Now that they are making a sequel I definitely have to see it. So this is a must see for me. I just hope this one atleast lives up to the first -_-
