I bought a 360 Elite the day before yesterday, and am currently playing on Halo 3 on Heroic. It can sometimes get very frustrating when you've got enemy fire coming at you from all angles. I can't imagine how hard it is on Legendery. But still, I love it!

I stopped playing Future Perfect when it went offline for PS2.

http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/7...meshiftkc2.jpg http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/3...earea51ac2.jpg Loved both games. They were really fun and addicting with awesome graphics and gameplay. I'd recommend both if anyone want's to rent a couple sweet games to kill some time with. Been considering Halo 3 mostly because of the hype but I've never been a big Halo fan since I first tried the original game so I might just hold off and wait till next month for Turok instead and grab Halo 3 when it goes down in price. Some games I have to buy brand new, but sometimes the $60 or $70 price tag isn't worth it to me. Once I see Halo for $40 I'll grab it i think but Turok is a must-have-ASAP no matter what it costs. http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/8...boxshotvp3.jpg http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/9...rtofficfh3.jpg |

Myself and almost all my friends were addicted to it. We had a contest to see who could beat each other's high-score on the first mountain Garibaldi by pulling off as many ubers as possible on the run. Usually we HAD to get big air on every jump and pull out 3 ubers each time before landing or we knew we'd be out of the running with any less. http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/5...ky26aaawb4.jpg Myself and 2 other friends were usually the top 3 of all of us with our quest to be first to hit a million points on Mt. Garabaldi. Sadly I was the first to get close and only a few hundred away from the million when I wiped out from an uber on the final jump before the finish line. My buddy got it a few days later, the bastach. :( I've seen people on YouTube get 2 and 3 million. http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/948...ky4640waf3.jpg I usually liked playing Elise, Marisol, or Zoe. Re: The Videogames Tab
My favourite games of recent weeks have been...
Half LIfe 2: Episode 2 (360) - Another AMAZING edition to my favorite game series ever. The story, graphics and game play gets better and better each time. Can't wait for Ep:3. Portals (360) - So so much fun! Hilarious ending too, from the same universe as Half Life, these guys dark humour is genius. Mario Galaxy (Wii) - Fun colourful and Mario, whats not too like. Really enjoyed what they did with gravity in this game, brilliant. Halo 3 (360) - Meh, its OK. Saying all that though, Bioshock on the 360 is my game at the moment, incredible story, brilliantly scary, awesome graphics and so much fun! |
Re: The Videogames Tab
Currently playing...
The Sims - PC Yep, the original. After reading Chuck Klosterman's article about The Sims in Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs, I went out and picked up a copy. Interesting experience to shift back to the original after all the brilliant additions they made in Sims 2 (such as life goals and generations). Makes it rather unthinkable because, after the more focused approach on offer in 2, playing the decidedly aimless original is rather bittersweet. Still, it's pretty fun training to be astronaut... :D |

Both of these Sid Meyer "Civilisation" games are micromanagement god games, easily moddable on so many levels, fun to play alone or if you want to play other humans, you can network, play on-line or by e-mail. The Metal Gear Solid Online beta, which has finally gone ... ermmm ... online.
Looks like you'll need to get a PS3, Iro. :D EDIT - It's basically Warhawk with lots of little Snake's running around but with the traditional MGS interface (and weapons, accessories etc). Unlike Warhawk, it's got a solo practise mode so you can finally enter a game for the first time with a grasp of the controls and not feel like a total noob. ;) |

Re: The Videogames Tab
My new lady friend loves to play video games (she's hot too, honest). So, we have been logging a lot of time in on the games lately.
Twisted Metal Black http://www.gamerankings.com/screens4/378092/1.jpg Sure, it's a few years old, but this game is by far the best car combat game I have ever played. I'll leave Mario-Kart for the kiddies, thanks. Dark, atmospheric, tone combined with a great controls, amazing level design, and a slew of fun to use weapons. Also, I got the game for under 10 bucks. Sorry, you just can't beat that. We also recently went through Resident Evil 4, which still totally rocks. John listed a Shin Megami Tensei game above. I must again chime in on the cool design aspects these games have. Check out one of these titles soon, folks! My lil lady is also going through GTA: San Andreas. I had already beat this game, and I am now constantly impressed with how differently her game is developing when compared to my first run through. Fun stuff. I will say though, some of my other games, like God of War, have aged pretty well as far as graphics are concerned, but, GTA is looking pretty rough these days... |

It's not earth-shatteringly good, to be honest (but I'm told that it improves once you've levelled up a few of your core skills), but it's a free beta so who's complaining? ;) Seds - I gave GTA:SA a twirl a few days back in preparation for GTA:IV and, yeah, the character models in particular look like something from the PS1. I was never 100% sold on any of the GTAs, to be honest, though I see that Ricky Gervais makes a cameo appearance in the new one. Being able to shoot him repeatedly would be reason enough for me to buy it... |

Re: The Videogames Tab
It's funny, but Kojima is being pretty harsh on it in interviews - not a great way to drum up sales for your new product.
I'm not too keen on multiplayers in general and MGO looks like joining the likes of Warhawk and Team Fortress in the 'can't be arsed to give another chance' pile. My local video store phoned me yesterday, inviting me down at midnight tonight for GTA4. Once I've decided what to trade I might actually do it - I'm gonna be busy enough on Tuesday as it is. ;) |
Re: The Videogames Tab
I want in the MGO beta so badly, too bad i don't have a PS3. Might get one for my 16th birthday solely for MGS4 hehe.

Re: The Videogames Tab
Tac: GTA:SA does look rough around the edges, but it's a great game, and HUGE. I mean, just massive. I enjoyed playing it.
Speaking of huge games, my girl is -playing through this: Final Fantasy XII http://www.the-nextlevel.com/reviews...tasy-xii-a.jpg I had already finished this game, managing to complete maybe 80% of the side quests, as well. I logged about 140 hours in on my run (!!!) I am actually having even more fun playing it the second time. I mean, Lisa is playing the game, and she loves it, so I play here and there and sit back and enjoy the story, while thinking up kooky gambit strategy etc. I must say, the game is playing much differently this time around, as she is developing her characters in a different way, and has to approach the game with different strategies. She is also doing alot of the side quests/general exploring in a much different order. The flexibility of the game, for an RPG, is pretty deep. Although somewhat linear as far as story progression is concerned, everything else is pretty non-linear. She is doing side quests at different times, and in a different order, and the world is pretty much open. I am marveling at the high production quality of this game. The story is presented in a more mature way than any other FF title. FFVII still has the craziest, most involved story in the series to date, but that story was also extremely obtuse in comparison. This writing is more elegant and more mature in many ways. A fine send-off to the series for the PS2... |
Re: The Videogames Tab
I like GTA: SA a lot but haven't given it a go in ages. Bought GTA 4 this afternoon and have only dabbled in it so far (still waiting to see if I can shoot Ricky Gervais) but it looks pretty good.
I know a lot of people who hate FF XII but I'm a bit more forgiving, I just don't love it as much as I do FF X (or VIII, or VII ... or VI). I just didn't find the storyline very involving but admit that it's probably the best looking game on the PS2, it's just a pity that it doesn't support progressive scan. FF XIII was one of the reasons I decided on a PS3, to be honest, so I hope it lives up to the hype that's bound to surround it. ;) |
Re: The Videogames Tab
Agreed.
Doing a bit of looking just now, GTA got a perfect 10 on both CNET and Gamespot. I guess they liked it. I was thinking about Final Fantasy X yesterday, and I liked that game, but I thought the main character was just damn annoying. He did become more endearing as the game progressed, but it did bother me to some extent. I did like 'lil Yuni, though.... |
Re: The Videogames Tab
Originally Posted by Sedai (Post 431345)

Yup, he was an annoying little **** but that's shared with the lead character in almost every JRPG (I found Vaan in FFXII just rather dull, though) I've played. You probably feel the same as I do but when you're not a teenager you don't really get a kick out of playing as a marginalized 17 year old. Have you tried the Xenosaga games? They've got pretty mature themes (not dark, like the Atlus RPGs though) and if you can get past the mountains of exposition they might be right up your street. ;) |
Re: The Videogames Tab
I played Xenosaga Episode One, and I really liked it. I do agree about the ridiculous levels of watching/exposition in that game, but the combat system with the slot-machine modifier was FUN. Good strategy there. I played the second, but I felt like the combat was dumbed down, so I lost interest fairly quickly.
RE: FFXII - You know, When I played through the first time, I sort of felt like the characters were a bit detached, and I didn't feel much of a connection with any of them. This time, I am really caught up in the story and the plot events are having more of an impact on me. Not sure why, but I am finding the story a lot more engaging this time around. Oh, I want to see Fran naked, too. Best virtual ass ever. |

Re: The Videogames Tab
My missus started FF XII but jacked it in for FF VII.
XII had a weak battle system, it was more practical to have all the character be the same instead of follow different paths which i initially tried. And once you'd set up a working gambit system didn't need any input during battles, save running a bit to keep MP up. The game wasn't very expansive, especially not to live up to the scale of the story, which was itself poorly developed- over soon as it got started. The only time i felt i was playing Final Fantasy was in the last battle. The world was given no scope. The main character wasn't a Leader in any way. Would have been better with Balthier, Basche, Fran and Ashe and only them. The subquests were too hidden to get full appreciation of them. The summons were AWFUL i never ever used them, complete waste. |

Dead Rising - Xbox 360
http://www.yonixgames.com/Images/Pos...of-zombies.jpg Once you get over the initial novelty value of zombies in a shopping mall, you realise that Dead Rising is actually not that great a game. Some of you may already know this or have probably guessed it, but yes, the game has a series of fundamental flaws that do ruin it to a degree. The one that really annoys me is the saving-after-death system. Either you can load the game from your last save or you can "save status and quit", meaning you start the game again with all your current skills. I accidentally did the latter, and it was a pity because I was about 30 in-game hours through... |
Re: The Videogames Tab
Tac - Heroes 4 is my favorite of the series, but I would think 5 is maybe the most advanced. It certainly has the best graphics. I have yet to play that, though. You have to like Turn-Based strategy to like any of these, though.
Currently, I am completely sucked into... Shin Megami Tensei - Nocturne This game is the ****. I LOVE the art direction in this game. Some of my favorite of any game, ever. I also like the dark theme w whole lot. This game is rare, and I am continually reminded why, with it's occult theme and nihilistic trappings. The game is difficult, too, which is a nice breath of fresh air after easy fare like Final Fantasy. The Atlas RPGs are quickly becoming my favorite RPGs of all time. Don't even get me started on the ridiculously deep and rewarding demon fusing system. SO addicting...Too bad a couple of the battle themes are almost unbearable, or it would be almost perfect... One of the best use of cell-shaded graphics in a game. A caveat - This game is difficult, big time. There is no mashing the X button through battles in this game. That fetches a big GAME OVER sign for you. The game uses a press-turn system, in which you can gain/lose turns in any given round depending on strengths/weaknesses. If you hit an enemy with lightning, and it is lightning based, your spell will actually heal the opponent, and you lose 2(!!) of the four attacks in the round. That's three negative hits per one of your mistakes, in case you weren't counting. This wouldn't be such a big deal if there weren't what seems to be an endless list of demons, all with different attributes. And finally, you really have no party. You recruit your enemies to fight along side you, and fuse them together to create more powerful demons. What this means is that, if you main character dies, it's game over. It doesn't matter if you have three support style demons with full mana and heal/rise spells galore. If you die, that's game. |
Re: The Videogames Tab
Babe this game is pretty awesome! So um.......lets play like now! LOL

Re: The Videogames Tab
Along with Nocturne, LT and I have recently started playing Persona 3, as well. Another JRPG by the people that made Nocturne, this is yet another creative title. Combining SIM games with dungeon crawling RPG, it's a fresh turn in a somewhat stale genre. As with Nocturne, this game has a very dark theme. For instance, to summon the characters Personas, which are sort of demon-esque manifestations of their psyches, they shoot themselves in the head with a gun shaped "invoker" device.
http://pcmedia.gamespy.com/pc/image/...5045716225.jpg That said, this game is super cool. We were instantly drawn into the story and socializing aspects of the game. It strikes a cool balance between SIM-like activities and social engineering, and old school hack and slash dungeon crawl. As with most of the Shin-Megami Tensei games, it has an anime design paradigm, which works well with this trippy, dark material. |
Re: The Videogames Tab
I've started playing Super Mario Galaxy again as of late. Though there are 120 stars in the game, it only took something like 70 to unlock the game's final battle. After I beat it, I got around 10 more stars, and then put it down for months. I've picked it up again recently and grabbed another 20, so I'm around 100 now.
The way the game is setup, it could take quite awhile to get them, as I'm pretty sure I've exhausted most of the relatively easy or straightforward ones. I'm almost entirely down to comet-based stars, including a few horrific purple coin levels that have been giving me fits. As stubborn as I can get about these things, I can still absolutely see myself throwing in the towel over a few of them. |
Re: The Videogames Tab
Persona 3 !!!! I totally agree.....consumed by the story and the characters growing into individuals with personalities !!! You can make or break your character and it's the deepest game I have ever played!!! Art work is awesome and well Sedai and myself are going to have no lives LOL ! This is a must play game!!! Love it!

Still Playing on my PS2.:(
fave games: - Resident Evil 4 Soulcalibur 2&3 love the character creation on 3, but quest mode sucks, weapons master on 2 was better. Smash Court Tennis Pro Tournament 2 Tekken 5 Pro Evolution Soccer 6 Viewtiful Joe SSX3 & SSX On Tour |
Re: The Videogames Tab
I was playing Grand Theft Auto IV (360) for awhile, but put that on hold about a month ago so I could play through The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii). Both games are well worth the purchase price.
