Senso's Top 10 Favorite Actors

The thing isolated becomes incomprehensible
I've seen Volonté's 4 spaghetti-westerns and I loved them all (in the case of the 2 non-Leone films, he was the main reason I liked them)!
He was one of the greatest and perhaps most underrated actors of the genre!

I'll check out some of those political movies, they sound interesting!

#5 Tomas Milian
(1933 - )

I think Milian could be an important actor but he wanted to make money and he left the USA (he studied in the Actor's Studio) to act in Italian B-movies. He became a star of the Italian B-movies (western, poliziotteschi...). He overacts a lot (it depends of the roles) but he was a neurotic, hysterical actor which contributed to the "baroque" spirit of the Italian B-movies.

I think Almost Human is the best poliziottesco (the trailer sucks ). Why? Because when I watched it, my parents came in front of the TV and... They stayed until the end and they even loved the film! They were fascinated by the movie. Hoewever, my mother doesn't like this kind of film at all and my father, even if he likes this kind of film, he always said "Uh, it's dated, it's so 70's", "It's incredible" and blah-blah-blah.

#3 Vittorio Gassman
(1922 - 2000)

Vittorio Gassman was one of the best Italian actors with Marcello Mastroianni, Nino Manfredi and Ugo Tognazzi, a protean actor with a magnetic acting and a toothy grin. A comedy like The Monsters of Dino Risi shows how versatile he was. Vittorio Gassman was tall and with his athletic stature, he could play the blowhard Italian in satirical films about the economic miracle (The Easy Life, The Tiger and The Pussycat). His face became melancholic and marked by doubts when he aged.

Bitter Rice, G. De Santis
Big Deal On Madonna Street, M. Monicelli
Fiasco in Milan, N. Loy
Il Mattatore, D. Risi
March On Rome, D. Risi
The Easy Life, D. Risi
The Monsters, D. Risi
The Tiger And The Pussycat, D. Risi
In The Name Of The Italian People, D. Risi
We All Loved Each Other So Much, E. Scola
Scent Of A Woman, D. Risi
The New Monsters, D. Risi
I'm Photogenic, D. Risi

I'd like to see : The Career Of A Chambermaid, Goodnight Ladies & Gentlemen, Dear Father, La Terrazza, Il Profeta, The Great War...

Master of My Domain
Favorites so far are Jean-Pierre Leaud and James Stewart. Not a huge fan of Brando, but I do agree about his sensual presence and charisma. Haven't really even heard of all the actors you posted.

The thing isolated becomes incomprehensible
Brando was a genius. One of a kind.

James Stewart was even more than that! A man that lived at least 30 years ahead of his time! My favourite perfomances by him are Vertigo, The Shop Around the Corner and Anatomy of a Murder. If I did a top like this he would probably be #1 or #2.

And would be your Top ten? I'm curious now

The thing isolated becomes incomprehensible
To make a Top 10, I'd have to think a bit harder, so here it is the Top 5:

  1. James Stewart
  2. Henry Fonda
  3. Jack Nicholson
  4. Marlon Brandon
  5. Marlene Dietrich

An honour mention to Christian Bale who I think that individually is probably the best in business, but has a terrible choice of movies!
