The Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame III: Foreign Language Edition

Tools

Welcome to the third Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame. To help prepare for the upcoming countdown, this HoF will only include non English speaking movies. If you're unfamiliar with how this works, take a peek at the links below-

Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame I
Winner-Neiba

Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame II
Winner-TheUsualSuspect

You must choose movies from the available lists that the other members have not seen!

I'm not sure how it's going to work for the countdown, so for this HoF, silent films are not eligible.

If you want to nominate a movie longer than 160 minutes for someone, let me know and I'll ask the person if it's ok. If a member has no time limit restrictions, feel free to mention it in the thread when you sign up.

There's a little bit of a time crunch, so if you want to participate, say so in this thread by Sunday night March 14th. Start sending your nominations to me via PM Monday morning and we'll get this under way.

There is a firm due date of June 5th regardless of how many members we have. Please do not join if you can't finish by then.

Bring it on and have fun!

Sounds like fun. Sign me up!
Great, you've been so good in the Roulette thread. Keep in mind that you're picking from movies that people haven't crossed off in their lists section.

So, just to be clear, the amount of films I would have to watch would depend on the amount of people that join in?

June 5 and I picked that so that it's a few days before the deadline to submit a ballot for the countdown.
I'm a bit wary about that deadline. I'm currently behind on the HOF24, which it's supposed to end Mid-April, plus I have my own Monthly Movie Loot challenge, so I don't know. I like the premise a lot, but I'll think about it.

Take a peek Sunday to see how many members there are. 11 members would equal 1 movie per week.

Yeah, that's more or less what I was thinking. Thanks!

Just to be clear, the goal is still the same as in the 1st Personal Recommendation?
Cricket wrote: This will be a different kind of specialty Hall of Fame, not one in which a movie will win, but rather a member.

Instead of the normal practice of nominating one movie for everyone to watch, you will nominate a different movie for every member. You will choose what your fellow members will be watching by picking one that they haven't crossed off from any of their MoFo lists. So make sure that you're lists are up to date! Maybe you'll pick a movie you think someone will love, or maybe you'll pick a favorite of your own that you want someone else to watch. The choice is yours!
I ask because there's some new people joining and they might assume the goal is like the 24th HoF where the member picks films that they love...but here we choose films for others that hopefully they will love and will rate high, and the person with the highest score wins.

Same goal

I though so, good...I'll join!

For everyone who joins, when picking a movie for me that I hopefully will love remember I don't like gratuitous violence or gratuitous sex, I have to watch these films with my wife and we both don't like extreme, dark disturbing stuff, I hate gore horror films.

Women will be your undoing, Pépé
I'm in.
I've been incredibly lucky with the recommendations in the two prior Personal Recs so pretty excited for what folks pick for me on this one

I'll play.

Can you say again how we know which films people have and have not seen? (Am I supposed to be filling out lists somewhere for others to look at?)

And for anyone picking a film for me, I do not watch films from directors or actors who are sexual predators, and especially people who have victimized children. So if you recommend me something from someone like Victor Salva or Roman Polanski, I won't be sassy/salty about it, I simply will not watch that film. (Not that anyone trying to win this thing would recommend me such a film, but just a general heads up). Same thing goes for films featuring unsimulated animal abuse/violence. I am not opposed to violence or even disturbing content, but harm that has been done to actual living beings completely ruins a film for me. Work and life have been stressful, and I'm not going to bend this personal preference just to be "in the spirit of the game" or whatever. If you are concerned about a film, just give me the title and I'll be happy to let you know if I'd consider it to be in the no-zone.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
In your Profile, click on Lists, go to the bottom of them, click View All Lists and fill each one out.
