239. Halloween (2018) DVD rewatch
This is the second time that I have seen this and to be honest I still don’t know what to make of it. Here we have another timeline which ignores all sequels and brings back Jamie Lee Curtis.
Firstly it pays too many homages to the original using identical scenes with different characters being in the same situation. In many of the sequels especially H20 a bunch of likeable characters are created who you are rooting for throughout the film. For me that wasn’t the case for 2018. I felt no connection and didn’t care at all as they were bumped off one by one. Also in previous films we see Michael mysteriously appear briefly to terrorise people but here he has too much screen time.
So we have a film called Halloween, starring Jamie Lee Curtis, featuring Michael Myers, yet for some reason I do not feel like I’m watching a Halloween film. Yes this blows the horrible Rob Zombie versions out of the water but this did not compare to the continuation of H20. Certainly the most serious of the films to date but this drained the fun element out of it.
Did I hate it? No, but I don’t think I liked it much either.
