I found -from the few of it- that modern b/w very likeable, so far. i like the vibe for young filmakers at the time to creatively push their artistic vision with that format, often against the limitation of budget. I like following, pi, tetsuo, clerks. But the best and criminally underseen must be Muddy River (1981)
Still lot want to see the like modern classic werkmeister harmonies, satantango, white ribon, ida, jarmusch's dead men and coffe and cigarette
Also despite the use of sephia tone for most of parts, shinji aoyama's Eureka (2000) deserve mention imo

"Clerks". It has to be "Clerks". LOL!
Also, "Young Frankenstein".
Just for fun, don't forget about "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid".

From what I've seen, the most noteworthy ones consist of "The White Ribbon", "Embrace of the Serpent", "The Artist" and "Ida". To a lesser extent, we could include "Frances Ha" and "Polytechnique" as well.

The Artist is the first that comes to mind. Watched it again recently, holds up pretty well (better than I would have thought, at least).

But the one I enjoyed the most is Sin City.

Dead Man is awesome.
The Artist is a neat film.
I love the first Sin City.
I accidentally forgot about Pi! Oops.

Frances Ha.
From 1986: Down by Law.
From 1987: Wings of Desire (which I may prefer to Paris, Texas)
La Haine is also good.
Pi is a fascinating first foray for a now fan-favorite filmmaker. A Field in England is arguably Ben Wheatley’s most... Ben Wheatley work yet. Good Night, and Good Luck is an underrated gem.
Ed Wood, the peak of Burton’s career.

Didn't like this one but it's one of the best looking b&w movies I've ever seen.

Great movie.
