Re-Evaluation of Children of Men

It's interesting to see the split in the assessment. At most, I thought the debate would be whether it is a B+ movie vs. an A+ movie.
I have it at a 9/10. While it's a technical marvel (there's been some pushback against long takes for some years, but I'm still a sucker for them), I think there's a ton of subtle heartbreak in there which keeps me coming back to it.

This scene, for instance, never ceases to devastate me. I didn't notice it throughout my first couple viewings, but it actually occurs inside an abandoned elementary school. It doesn't specifically mention the school in the scene, but it's a sobering reminder on the state of the world and how the few reminders of youth are decaying amidst a world slowly tearing itself apart.

This is one film that I also need to re-watch and re-evaluate. I haven't seen this since just after it came out and was released on DVD - I think, I actually had it in my queue back in the day when Netflix still did the DVDs in the mail thing, and I remember enjoying it and appreciating it, but I think I gave it a B+ or something like. Much like the original poster of the thread commented, "solid, but not great." I imagine if watching it today, nearly decades later, I'd feel differently about it.
