You can be a movie buff. Even at 15.
horror movies that have a religious base never scared me. The Ring (not the japanese one) scared me really bad. I used to be able to watch anything and not be scared. That changed it definitely.

The Shining is Jack Nicholson's defining movie and by far RULES in my book.

and Jaws IS the reason why I STILL don't go into the deep end of the pool.

I was really scared when I saw The Orphanage.

I think that this was one of my favourites of 2007. Very atmospheric build-up, scarce usage of scare-and sound effects and a plot that hovers between reality and fantasy. You don't need buckets of blood and guts to scare an audience. The most effective horror movies get into your head and suck you in.

I saw It's Alive on a double bill (remember those?) with Andy Warhol's Dracula, which had a few good moments, but was mostly tedious. It's Alive was much better.

Sorry Harmonica.......I got to stay here.
Phantasm was the most scary for me. Mostly cause I saw it young, and things stay with you longer then. The tall man and that crazy silver ball still freak me out.

What is scary in my opinion is related to what the person considers scary, so different movies work differently for different people. Paranormal activity worked well for people who believe in ghosts and for people believing they were watching something real, it must have been a nightmare (yes there are such people).
the film that made my hair rise was THE OTHERS. and i dont believe in ghosts.

One of the most realistic alien abduction scenes ever put to film.
Realistic? so you have seen an alien abduction take place or you were abducted yourself?

For me, it's Communion. Aliens are the most realistic "monsters" in the horror world in my view, and if they exist, any one of us could be a victim to alien abduction. That is where the discomfort of it all comes in, and for anyone to think we humans are the only living creatures in this giant universe could perhaps be seen as egotistic.

I have seen a lot of movies in my life. Way too many in fact, but out of the hundred's and hundred's of films I've seen, I must say that Communion is truly the scariest motion picture that my eyes have watched. It scared me as a child, it scared me as a teenager and it scares me a *little* as man, but it's more the memories I had of it in my youth that seems to trigger the fear, but I have never seen a movie that made me feel more uneasy. Communion is the only horror film to have ever made me revert back to being a child. I tried to watch it when I was 24, and as I was watching a very scary scene, my body began to experience the "fight or flight" system. My feet felt weird, my heart was pumping, I got goosebumps and I was sweating. No movie has EVER made me experience that and I don't think any other movie ever will. Even watching it during the day time, it scared me just as much. It scared me so much that I actually almost screamed in one part but gasped instead, and twice I had to turn it off and stop watching it because it scared me that much at that time.

The reason why it scares me is because since early childhood I suspected that I may have been a victim to alien abduction. I know that sounds crazy and it's most likely not true, but I think there's always going to be a part of me that will always be scared of aliens. Communion is the only movie that takes me right into the film. I watch so many different scenes in this movie and I think...."I've been there." I know what it's like to wake up late at night and wonder if I'm alone in my room. I decided not to even finish it back then because it's way too intense. I finally watched it again three years ago and I was able to handle it and I can honestly say I beat my fear of aliens. lol. Since becoming an Atheist, I have cleaned my head out all things that are superstition-related, and have a much better understanding of life. While aliens may exist, I don't think they are out there abducting people. I have some deep thoughts on why I feared Aliens for so long, but I won't digress.

Mine are probably a cliche but The Exorcist, The Omen, Carrie, and The Shining are the only ones that made a lasting impression on me. I was born in 1971 and I saw all of these at the movies. I had nightmares for years. Also scary when I originally saw them as a youngster were It's Alive, The Sentinel, Burnt Offerings and Trilogy of Terror.

I still love horror movies but I'm not terrified by them any longer.

I was scared sh!tless when I first watched Halloween. Think I must've been 12.

I have never been scared by any movie, so it is the mood I seek in horrors and thrillers.

You may well've seen them, but for atmospheric horrors, may I suggest the following: Ring, The Innocents, The Haunting (1963), The Fog (1980), The Descent, The Changeling, Frailty, The Sixth Sense, Stir Of Echoes, The Thing (1982), The Wicker Man (1973) and The House Of The Devil.

We've gone on holiday by mistake
Yeah "The Fog" is a good scare Honeykid. Only saw it for the first time in the last couple of years. Well scary!

Personally I have to go with "Paranormal Activity" the first time you watch it. I was all like "Yeah I'm a big man, nothing scares me etc" until I watched that an night in the house by myself. Holy **** when they are sleeping and the nightcam is on, scary as ****!

I was fairly petrified after watching "Blair Witch Project" at the Cinema.

I watched Stephen King's "It" when I was very young. Scared the **** out of me. Especially the bleeding picture scene, when his dead brother winks at him. Mother of God that is some scay ****.

Sometimes a scary film can be something that really makes you think afterwards. Like "Jacob's Ladder".

I put The Fog up because Minio was talking about liking an atmosphere, as the films don't scare him. I'm the same, and I love The Fog because it creates a great atmosphere. Of course, there are a good few more, but I can't bring any to mind, atm.
