The best movies of 2008 so far

I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
I have to say Mamma Mia is the only movie I've seen so far that I would rate above average. And not by much. Everything else has been entirely forgettable. This probably says more about how many movies I've seen than anything else, but I can't say I feel I'm missing out much reading some of other people's lists. Although I haven't seen The Dark Knight yet, and probably should. Still, often the year's best films come out later in the year. Or early next year.

the mummy was better than i thought it would, be better than what the critics gave it

Of course they do, that's when the studios release the films they consider Oscar worthy, so they're fresh in the minds of the Academy when they receive their ballots. Hell, there's even talk of The Dark Knight being re-released in December for a week or so, just so it's in the forefront of people's minds and no one's shut up about that film all year.

It's actually being re-released in January not December. It's already been announced they're doing it.

I would say The Dark Knight, Iron Man, and The Hulk are my favorite so far. And I liked Sex and The City, and Indiana Jones.

I too was surprised at how enjoyable was Mamma Mia. Especially to someone like me who (1) never liked disco, (2) never much cared for ABBA, and (3) until recently was no fan of Streep.

Dark Knight was impressive, In Bruges was great, Burn After Reading I really enjoyed too. Cloverfield was excellent although that was probably a 2007 for the US, but a 2008 for the UK.

Mamma Mia was great! It was a bit like schadenfreude watching Colin Firth squirm with embarrassment

Will your system be alright, when you dream of home tonight?

I'm sure it was. I remember making the joke somewhere, saying that I knew what it was going to be . . .

I thought a lot of people liked it, but didn't like the shaky cam. I may be way off, though. Honestly, it's nothing that I care to see.
