Any decent team has a chance against any other team in a short series. And the primary downside of being a Wild Card team is just that you have to survive another one of those short series; once you have, there's really no meaningful disadvantage to it.

Yeah, 3 or 5 games can be a quick series even going against a loaded team. I guess maybe that has leveled the playing field for teams not named the Yankees or dodgers.

7 games on the other hand may still he same.

I follow the playoffs in hockey, hownos.

Having to play a wildcard round may (or may not) mess with the pitching rotation a bit though. Yet home field does seem to matter less in baseball recently, despite the size difference between stadiums and how teams could theoretically make it advantageous.

That being said, the Royals win was not much of an upset to me (neither the Tigers as Houston didn't really look like their former championship caliber team most of the season). I'm not giving the Royals much of a shot against the Yankees, but I'll still be pulling for them.

He crushed that pitch...Royals fought hard and the Phillies just fell apart in the bullpen.

Kinda bothers me they split the games now, only 2 games today.

Welcome to the postseason, Shohei.
I wonder if theyre gonna beam him for that bat flip? Has anyone ever tried to hit him with a pitch? It seems just wrong when it comes to him.

Speaking of the rocket, have any of you heard of secret base on youtube? They do a segment called beef that chronicles feuds from all different sports and the recently did one on Clemens and Piazza. On the flip side I watched clips of a sit down interview Rocket did with Joe Buck and he still denied hitting Piazza in the head intentionally which made me laugh because if you watch the secret base video on them he totally threw at Piazza's head. Which is sort of funny to me.

Oh yeah, watched a bunch. I think the quality's gone down a bit but it's well worth the time, and some of them are tremendous. The Beef History ones are among the best, for sure.

Yeah, those and deep rewind have been mined quite a bit but there are occasionally a few new gems.

I think that's exactly the right way to put it: they keep making them but inevitably have to lower the threshold for what qualifies and make them about less interesting things over time as they use up the best ones. But still lots of good stuff. And new beef's being cooked all the time, naturally.

Nando and the Padres also took care of business. And they didn't even have to throw at Dave Roberts in the dugout.

The Brewers have made the playoffs 9 times in their history. All 9 times the teams that have knocked them out of the playoffs have either made it to or won the World Series. I should have hit up the local sports book and put some money on the Mets last week. I don't want any of the NL teams to win it all so I'm kind of hoping the streak continues.
