The Cabin In The Woods...

And that... is the first of probably many I actually f**king forgot about for my own list.

Would certainly have been a top 15 entry from me had I remembered.
Gonna be stewing over this now for a couple weeks.

Cabin is a clever written, cleverly executed and full-on meta horror, even more so than Scream.
It's like Scream, with the dial turned up to 11.

It's also actually scary in places.
Underrated movie.

Seen and liked both of today's reveals. I have The Artist @ #87 and The Cabin in the Woods @ #132. (#59 on my all time Horror movies list)

THE ARTIST 2011 Michel Hazanavicius

1h 40m | Drama | Romance | Comedy
Writer: Michel Hazanavicius
Cast: Jean Dujardin, Bérénice Bejo, John Goodman, James Cromwell, Penelope Ann Miller

Very well made film, the expressions and the music more than make up for the absence of spoken word. With noticeable elements from Valentino ‘77 and classics like Umberto D. and Sunset Boulevard. Although there is a lot to like about this film. I don't have any room left for it on my ballot but I do hope it will make the MoFo 2010’s list.

Seen 9/14
Ballot 2/25

The Cabin In The Woods was my #9. The Artist is very good and was in contention for a spot along with it but didn't quite make it.

Seen: 12/14 (Own: 8/14)
My ballot:

Faildictions

I haven't seen Cabin in the Woods but I would like to sometime certainly.

The Artist is pretty good but I'd be lying if I said I'm not pissed that it continually beats The Descendants in everything, including on this countdown. I still think Clooney deserved that Oscar over Dujardin.

Victim of The Night
Well, to me, The Cabin In The Woods is shockingly low. If it had been at 50 I'd have still thought so.
I've seen it something like 8 or 9 times now, it holds up every time (I actually have this conversation with myself every time that this is the time it won't but it always does), and I think it remains just a completely wonderful movie for any genre fan who doesn't take themselves or their movies too seriously.
Everybody knows what a huge Horror fan I am and how deep I'm willing to go, and yet Cabin In The Woods would have a good chance to make my All-Time Horror 25 and an All-Time Genre Top-50.
It was my No.10 of the decade.

Worth it.
I'm still kicking myself for forgetting it.

Think Evil Dead, crossed with Scream... and then add every horror movie ever made in one giant mashball of meta.

A system of cells interlinked
I've seen Cabin in the Woods a couple of times and I like it quite a bit. I saw JoJo Rabbit once and thought it was good but not great. I've not seen The Artist or A Separation...

No votes from me for these two rounds!

I saw The Artist once when it was fairly new. All I really remember about it was that I didn't enjoy it. It's just not my kind of movie. The Cabin in the Woods also looks like it's not my kind of movie, so I haven't bothered to see it.

Seen: 8/14
My Ballot:
11. The Man From Nowhere (#95)
20. Jojo Rabbit (2019) (#89)
25. Kitbull (One Pointer)

Reviews in My 2010s Countdown Preparation Thread

Turns out I missed the start of this, slowly catching up.

I have It Follows at 22.

That first half was great, it really got under my skin. The second... ehh, not so much but I still had to include it.

Trouble with a capital "T"
The Cabin in the Woods....haven't seen it and I don't like modern horror. The Artist....seen it and was impressed, it was much more creativly done than just shooting in black and white. Came very close to making my list.

Welcome to the human race...
The Cabin in the Woods definitely has a bit of a "horror for people who don't like horror" vibe, for better and for worse.

Interesting I think it’s kind of the opposite. If you don’t like horror this is still a horror movie. But if you love horror then it’ll click with you deeply.

Horror has always been my favorite genre and the only one I like that has shown up is It Follows, and even that was miles from being a contender for my ballot.

I suppose it can go both ways. I think what has made me think less of it in recent years is that it's almost too self-conscious about its exercise in breaking the genre down to its core components for the sake of meta commentary and deconstructing the genre even as it's willing to indulge it (such as the male employees eagerly gathering around to possibly witness female nudity only to show said nudity anyway). Real have-your-cake-and-eat-it hours, which is amusing enough at first but doesn't really hold up that well.
