Best Comic Book Movie?

I like them all, even the bad ones and the foreign ones. I watched The Spirit the other day and within minutes was annoyed with it. The Spirit was brought back from the dead when he first came out (1940?) but that was it and from then on, he is just a two-fisted hero who gets wounded, etc.

The guy in the film is unkillable. A super-hero, which is what The Spirit wasn't. However having said that, the film worked quite hard to be good and I quite liked it by the end.

I watched Blueberry several months back and a week later could hardly have told you anything about it other than it was a western.

As to TV adaptions, I just got through watching Smallville 8 and had the disappointment of the year. I knew episode 22 (last) was called Doomsday and expected an epic battle where Doomsday and Clark Kent dies (to be somehow revived in season 9). Instead it was over in seconds and we saw nothing. Other final episodes in the series were chock-full of shocks but this was a complete let down. The writer should have his ass kicked. I could have done better than that.

In terms of trying to capture a comic booky feel I would go with either the first 2 Spider-man movies or Iron Man. They capture the fun, the iconic imagery, and the light-hearted spirit.

In terms of themes and a strong message, I would go with Watchmen or The Dark Knight. These films do offer and prove the comic books are smarter than what most people think. They bring substance.
