You can add Children of Men to the list of films that I required multiple viewings of to recognize its brilliance.

I've gone from believing it was simply "solid" to "very good", now, on a fourth viewing, I've come to acknowledge that it deserves its all its praise and should rightfully be considered one of the best films of the 00s.

No Country for Old Men was the same way for me. It took three viewings before it truly hit me how frickin amazing a film it is... now it's one of my favorites.

In short... Children of Men is a great film.

I can watch that film over and over and never get bored. The ceasefire scene where the war stops because of a child's screams was haunting. I think it's forgotten moreso than underrated. I never see people crap over this one, but so many people have barely heard of it never mind seen it which I find a bit odd. Plus my accent was on film for once which was nice

I seen Children of Men once and didn't care much for it...but it gets a LOT of praise so there must be something to it. I should rewatch someday, if for no other reason just to see Julianne Moore.

I don't know if you're interested but awhile back we did a Sci-Fi HoF and Children of Men came in second, The Thing was #1...Here's a link if you want to read what the HoF members wrote about it.

I don't feel think it's underrated, not among hardcore film fans anyway. It's considered one of the best best sci-fi film made since 2000.

Maybe casuals underrate it, but they don't count lol.

Yeah, I feel like you should definitely re-watch it... because I felt the exact same way as you the first time I saw it.

This is why I feel I should rewatch Annihilation one of these days. I thought it was only decent on a first viewing, but I have a suspicious a follow-up would boost my rating of it.

I haven't seen Annihilation yet, but I probably will as soon as it gets to DVD. We might be doing another Sci Fi Hof fairly soon, you're welcomed to join Hell you can even nominate Children of Men seeing how it didn't win the first time.

I last saw it two years ago and just the opening, beginning with just the sound of the news flatly reporting “ordinary slaughter and routine atrocities” and then cutting to the crowd in the cafe transfixed with the news of a celebrity death, was enough to give me some whiplash.

Still, beautiful and uplifting film.

I feel I need a rewatch of this, it's been years now. I saw a post on Twitter the other day that had various stills from the film that basically were pretty accurate to the state the world is in today, something Im always a big fan of when revisiting films set in the future when time catches them up (Blade Runner, Terminator, Minority Report etc.) It's a very good film anyway, one that stuck from that very first viewing in the cinema in 2006, but one I definitely need to see again.

After setting through the film, bored, I asked my wife what she thought of it, her reply "it's a chase movie". I wanted to see a thought provoking film not another shoot em up action film. Any higher meaning about birth and life was lost in the explosions and endless running battles. I didn't care for it.

Definitely an A+ movie. Cuarón has never made a bad movie, and most of them are really really good.
