Brazilian film (I doubt it was filmed in Portugal)

I saw this in Melbourne, Australia in March of 2013 very late... It's about these 2 boys about 15 or 16..

It's a movie about life I guess, growing up. It reminds me a tiny bit of "City of God" but it centers on these two boys. I think I remember thefts, and one kid getting laid, but that's what I remember most.

Lot of dialogue, it's very, very good. They portray them not positively or negatively.

If I remember any scenes, I'll come back and add.

No, I saw City of Men, it wasn't that.... I stayed up until 3am to watch this. I also remember the couchsurfing host we stayed with only had 10-15 channels, so I think it was a national Australian channel (ABC perhaps?)

It seemed like a movie on growing up, talking, I don't remember any plot or any goal in mind. A very, very good film.

Is it one of these?

Thanks for trying, but it definitely wasn't the first one. And I saw the movie in March of 2012, so it couldn't have been the second one. It had to be pretty mainstream to be on Australian television, and it wasn't on a pay channel. I'm sure someone has to know it.

The film didn't have any Acts I, II, III or any crazy revealings. Just days in the life growing up as a teenager and what teenagers like, trying to understand life.

I think I remember them stealing a lot of stuff from a department store (I could be slightly off), and then them sharing the money, even though one guy did more, and though it was nice they at least shared. I remember one kid being more into stealing, and the other a little hesitant, or not as enthusiastic. It started at 1am (and we had work the next morning!) but it was really, really good. I thought I would watch the first bit, and if I liked it, to write it down and watch at another time, but it was that good.

Reminds me of a 13-year search for the song De Ja Vu by Dionne Warwick which has the most craziest story, but I don't want to veer off this topic too much

If Spanish/Mexican, it might be Y tu mamá también

No.. They seem to stay in their ghetto for the most part. I didn't watch the 2nd half. They were shorter. Brazil or Argentina. If I had to guess, I'd say 2000. Two friends, about 15, and they talk life, might be delinquent, but not bad people... And then one finds a girlfriend. A drama.

I have never lived in Australia and don't know anything about Australian TV. But in many countries, they can put stuff that is less "mainstream" on VERY late at night when the children are expected to be in bed. I am guessing that this may be the case, because it was put on at 1 in the morning. You are saying it was a good movie, this suggests to me it was not an "exploitation" film, instead it may have been sort of an artsy, independent movie.
It is also clear that this was a foreign film. In your original post you said it was probably Brazilian, probably not Portuguese. But that suggests you thought the language was Portuguese. Later you suggested it might have been Argentinian, which would mean the language was Spanish.

I thought of How Angels are Born (1996) but that's got guns and is not really a days in the life type of thing... I'm stumped.

Both guys were "white" (brownish).. Dark brown hair.
