Fifty sounds like a lot.

It was weird watching this. First of all, there was one actor on the list I have never heard of. Second, I'm really troubled that, other than that one actor, there were no real surprise on the list. I'm curious about the ranking process. I'm wondering what criteria was used to decide in what order these celebrities should be because I found the order rather strange.

Fifty doesn’t sound like it’s enough

I would be embarrassed if I couldn't name a couple hundred off of the top of my head.

Weirdly, I never would have considered Frank Sinatra, even though he almost certainly was. Maybe it's hard to seem like a degenerate drinker when you are standing next to Dean Martin so much.

Trouble with a capital "T"
Certainly one of the saddest stories I've ever read about an actor/actress and booze is Gail Russell. Extra sad because she seemed like such a sweet person.

This will sadden your heart:

Yeah, Hollywood’s history is littered with them, sadly. Some get their life straightened out, others….not so much.

Sinatra and the Rat Pack were notorious for their hard partying lifestyle .

That’s a good example yeah. Forgot about her.

Mr. Rogers
Dame Judy Densch
Rin Tin Tin
Alan Rickman
Elmo (Elmo prefers red Jell-O shots)

I think sometimes that the term "alcoholic" is used to describe a heavy drinker. Heavy drinkers and alcoholics are two very different things. Heavy drinkers can usually take it or leave it, and once started can stop drinking if they want to. An alcoholic normally can not.

Dean Martin was not an alcoholic. Here is a quote from Wikipedia which pretty well addresses Martin's drinking:

...Despite Martin's reputation as a drinker—perpetuated via his vanity license plate "DRUNKY"—his alcohol use was quite disciplined. He was often the first to call it a night and, when not on tour or on a film location, liked to go home to see his wife and children. He borrowed the lovable-drunk shtick from Joe E. Lewis, but his convincing portrayals of heavy boozers in Some Came Running and Howard Hawks's Rio Bravo led to unsubstantiated claims of alcoholism. ...

While we’re on the subject of The Ratpack, were you ever able to meet any of them during your time as a musician? I know The Rolling Stones felt like Dean was mocking them during his introduction of them before a live TV performance.
What were your experiences with them, if you ever had any?

Right, this is also my understanding.

The truth of the matter, she said, was her father was swigging apple juice and not liquor when he performed. "He would be home for dinner every night," Martin said. "He would come home, and he and mom would have their one cocktail at the bar.

Count me as yet another person who believed and had also heard that Dean Martin's drinking was only a character prop for his performances. I like him and wish he had made more serious dramas. The dramas I've seen him in he's excellent.

No, I never met any of those guys. They were a few years ahead of my time. We were, however, performing guests on "The Joey Bishop Show" ('67-'69) in Sept. of '68. But Bishop was off, and Shelley Winters was the guest hostess. In fact when the producers found out what kind of music we did they tried to cancel us. But Shelley threatened to walk off the show if they didn't have us on. It was a well received show. Afterwards she invited the band out to her place in Malibu for a party, but for some reason I had something else going on, and didn't go. I'm still kicking myself...

If I was in Hollywood I’d probably be an alcoholic too tbh. And mental wreck. That place is just hell on earth and I would personally think I’d find it very hard to be a part of.
