Some might go after her a bit for whining when she clearly has everything, but I think that is the main point of the film, and clearly one of the themes of the etching that inspired the film: Happiness can elude us at the strangest times, and especially when it seems like we really, really should be....

Despite the stilted dialogue and messy screenplay, Melancholia is a good film. It’s problematic, but ultimately it does end up working..

He deliberately subverts that chick flick par excellence: the wedding film, the one that all little girls have dreamt of by having the heroine, instead of enjoying her night of nights; to one where the bride can barely muster any interest in proceedings.
