"her" - Totally "Lost "her" in Translation" Almost nothing I liked about this movie. Are all men really going to be wearing ridiculously ugly high-waisted pants in the near future?

Just watched Gamer starring Gerard Butler and Michael C Hall. Lots of action but was not amazing. Storyline is there but didn't think it was portrayed in the best way. Sort of an anti-climax at the end. Butler plays his usual character but it was good to see Hall in a film having watched him play Dexter Morgan for 8 seasons recently. He is very interesting to watch as an actor and can play the bad/insane/psychopath guy very well.

Nil by Mouth
It's not as powerful as I expected and it dragged a little. It's still a pretty good movie; Ray Winstone is great as usual.

The last movie I saw was inside Llewyn Davis. It was a very well made movie. Like a lot of the Coen brothers movies the story is unorthodox but still entertaining. The lead actor was great and the movie was shot beautifully. I hope this movie wins best cinemography. It's a great movie but my depress you a little bit
I just watched Mulholland Drive (2001) - Wow, I can't believe I let that one slip under the radar for so long. David Lynch certainly knows how to pick leading ladies. As an aside, what a life story the actress Laura Harring has to tell - amazing! A surreal 8.5/10

The French Connection
+. This gritty 70's crime thriller took a while to get into, but when it does the movie is exciting, riveting and extremely engaging. Some of the sequences are some of the best in cinema history.
I watched this one on Netflix and now actually want to go out and get a physical copy - craziest Korean thriller/horror I've seen in a long time.

Purple Noon
(René Clément, 1960)
tom ripley is a talented mimic, moocher, forger and all-around criminal improviser;
but there's more to tom ripley than even he can guess
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054189/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
a good many of you probably already know, Purple Noon was remade by Hollywood in 1999 as the Talented Mr Ripley, starring Matt Damon, Jude Law & Gwyneth Paltrow. i've only seen bits and pieces of that... so i can't make a clear comparison
as for the original, i found the execution to be spot on. the character Tom Ripley, played exceptionally by Alain Delon, is pretty much the most horrible type of person. however, you the viewer are stuck right there with him, conflicted, almost rooting for him. it really feels like you, the viewer, are Tom Ripley. it's bizzare yet fascinating. he's a weird dude, and you are him. which is a testament to Delon's performance. one that launched him to stardom in the 1960's. it's also a testament to Clément's ability as a storyteller/director
i got ahold of this film as an appetizer, before viewing le Samouraï - also starring Delon. which i should get around to soon. surprised i hadn't heard of Purple Noon prior to some research a few days back when looking through Delon's credits. why does this only have 6,576 user votes on IMDb, to the Talented Mr Ripley's 108,451? maybe it's just the title that's the problem... -Purple Noon- not exceptionally catchy or memorable. although it even has a Nino Rota soundtrack, predating his work on the music for the Godfather. it's got a great leading performance, the supporting actors are great, it's well-directed, & the Mediterranean settings are dazzling. it's just a beautifully weird film

I like it more than Le Samourai, but I'm a heathen. Nino Rota was Fellini's regular composer long before The Godfather, but he did tons of other scores.

Pretty good, but I think that Philip Seymour Hoffman's character is pretty useless

Lord of War
Pleasantly surprised with this movie. Had little expectations going in (had no idea what the film was about) so that worked out well. Cage's acting is superb and the film is awesomely shot. Great visuals and scenery constantly on display. The movie's paced extremely well and feels high budget. Awesome movie I'll definitely go back to in the future.

Only God Forgives.
I was really looking forward to this, maybe too much, it could have been so much better. Not a patch on Drive and although Gosling didnt do much it that either, he done a whole lot more than in this. Wasnt even that violent either.
6/10
The Woman
A wealthy business man takes captive a feral woman found in the woods. Its all too predictable and overall its pretty bad. The DVD cover describes the film as 'Powerful, Brutal and Beautiful', i certainlt didnt think so.
4/10
The Wolverine (2013)
Im not really a fan of x-men but i fairly enjoyed this and though Jackman was good.
6.5/10

I watched Movie 43 today. Has anyone else seen this?
I thought it was terrible. Just terrible. Not funny just odd. A huge cast of experienced and well known actors but I just did not get it at all, maybe it was just me?
Debating between 3 or 4 / 10

Naked-Character study of an extremely flawed individual who constantly wanders from place to place, never finding himself a home. I tried to love the movie, but I couldn't. I simply could not relate or emphasize for the protagonist in the slightest. He's arrogant, narcissistic, and he never learns from his mistakes. Maybe thats the point of it all, but it's keeping me from calling the film great. It's a . Good, but It could have been something much, much more.
Her (2013) - +
"now many people are you in love with Sam? 641"
Great movie about the difficulties of very different individuals in having a relationship. Filmed in Shanghai and most of the people you see in the street are Asians, shows how we view the future from the perspective of 2013, just like 2001 showed the future from the perspective of 1968.
The same overall theme was already treated in a Big Bang Theory episode (very superficially) and in an anime series (Chobbits), that time with a more happy ending.

TBH, I've only mentioned that to annoy SC.
