Is it a spoiler? I was going to watch this movie yesterday. I saw it 20 years ago, and don't remember much, and the handful of times since I've tried to watch it, I would turn it off after about 30 minutes, sometimes at the insistence of the person sitting next to me.

No, it's not a spoiler, and both the author of the original movie as well as Kubrick denied HAL has anything to do with IBM.
