The Shoutbox
I feel like watching a 9/10 or 10/10 masterpiece but nothing like that on the horizon
Masterpieces will make their way to your memory anyway.
Counterpoint - movies are not tacos. You should savor them and take your time to fully appreciate
Allaby is a slow film watcher. Tralalala. He'll lose, lose, lose! Tralalala. He's only seen 40 films in August so far, what a weakling! Tralalaal

You're hopping they're not bad, amrite?
I'm not that big on Kaiju actually though i warmed to it in the last few years.

The Japanese achieve their entertainment peak in the 70s just like Americans. Looks like the bubble economy ruined that a little but. Money always ruins .
I agree the silliness is different, but that’s hardly the point now isn’t it? It’s a little inconsistent, and maybe just a little bit biased if we’re being honest, perhaps? And that’s ok. I happen to enjoy Japan more than the US. Even it’s silly films. Especially their silly films! Kaiju films are just so much more fun!
HK, not as much so far. I still have a handful of their “hopping vampire” films saved that I’ve been meaning to watch, so I’m hoping they aren’t too bad.
The silly in the US is different from the silly in HK or Japan.

Spielberg is good but lame and he destroyed cinema in the 70s and later 80s. HK took what Spielberg destroyed and managed to save it the best they could.

Pre-code 1930s is indeed some fun in the US but their best directors weren't even born in the US like Lubitsch.

Box office says nothing. Normies will usually swarm to watch the worst stuff. Their opinion is worthless.
