The MoFo Top 100 of the 1970s: Countdown

I actually would love to see something beat out The Godfather for the #1 spot only because it would be so predictable for The Godfather to win it. Let's be different! Although there are three remaining films I don't want to see at #1, not because I don't love them as well, but just because I don't personally put them in the same class. Two of them aren't on my list and one I put in the 20s.

I put Taxi Driver as my number one prediction more as a vote from the heart then from the head. Taxi Driver to me is a Top 3 for this list. The other strongest contenders for the top 3 are The Godfather, Jaws, and Chinatown. We shall see how this plays out, and what movie shows up next.
If Taxi Driver is number 1 you know i'll hold it over you forever ??

Actually, the sheet metal door is already open. Leatherface merely appears in the doorway, kills the guy then SLAMS the sheet metal door shut.

It's even more frightening than I remembered!!!

These are the 3 from my list that didn't make it, I'd be curious to see if I'm the only one who voted for them Holden :P

9. That Obscure Object of Desire (1977)
12. My Name Is Nobody (1973)
17. Day for Night (1973)
You were the only one who voted for Day for Night, while That Obscure Object of Desire and My Name is Nobody both had one other MoFo join you.

I love all three of those movies, but obviously found room for none on my top twenty-five.

For anyone unclear on the schedule, this Sunday (September 7th) I'll reveal the top pair of films.

Tuesday = Number Seven
Wednesday = Number Six
Thursday = Number Five
Friday = Number Four
Saturday = Number Three
Sunday = Numbers Two and One

If Taxi Driver is number one I will disco dance in my underpants. But I will not post it online.
Pics or never happened.

Stanley Kubrick’s second film on the list (#16 Barry Lyndon) is the Ultraviolent adaptation of Anthony Burgess’ controversial novel, which made for an even more controversial film. Only fourteen points separate it from the last two films, and it appeared on fifty-two ballots. But sixty-five percent of those (34/52), were top tens. Clockwork Orange received five first place votes, eight second place, three third, five fourth, a fifth, six sixth placers, two eighth, a ninth, and a tenth on way to 870, total.

Kubrick had two films in the top ten of our ‘80s list, Full Metal Jacket (10) and The Shining (1), as well as Eyes Wide Shut placing at number fifteen on the ‘90s list. He has two in the top twenty this time, and will surely have at least two in the inevitable 1960s List.

The sixth place film is coming at you…tomorrow.

A Clockwork Orange was #6 on my list.

The highest film I had left that was gonna show up.

I first saw this movie back in ... 2007, I think it was. Maybe 2006 or 2008, one of those years. Really loved it. I plan on giving it a watch again soon as it's been awhile. No, I do not want to do a commentary (at least not yet). Not that Honeykid was gonna even ask.

A Clockwork Orange was the #1 movie on my "Mother of The Godfather" list. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was the #1.5 movie.

Tomorrow better be Chinatown because I seriously do not see what the deal is with that stupid Chinatown.

At least this beat that movie with the crazy people in the hospital that Miss Vicky loves.

It seems that a lot of people hate A Clockwork Orange and I can understand why. It has a few qualities that I usually don't like in my movies-strange sets, goofy costumes, odd lingo, and classical music. Yet it's one of my all time favorite movies; I had it at #2.

My list-
#2 A Clockwork Orange (7)
#3 Saturday Night Fever (87)
#4 Animal House (66)
#5 The Warriors (37)
#7 The Exorcist (12)
#8 Coming Home
#9 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (8)
#10 The Deer Hunter (38)
#12 Little Big Man (61)
#13 Apocalypse Now (9)
#14 Mean Streets (77)
#15 Deliverance (51)
#16 Smokey and the Bandit (124)
#17 Mikey and Nicky
#18 The Beguiled
#19 Marathon Man (73)
#20 The Gauntlet
#21 The Marriage of Maria Braun
#22 The Last House on the Left
#23 Straw Dogs (83)
#24 3 Women (126)

A Clockwork Orange is a phenomenal movie, I haven't seen it in a few years but as a teen it was a big favorite. I remember painting myself as Alex (with the hat and the eye thing and whatnot) for a self portrait in my art class.

My list:

2. Fantastic Planet
3. Halloween
4. 3 Women
5. Harold and Maude
6. Stalker
7. The Holy Mountain
8. Aguirre, the Wrath of God
10. Cries & Whispers
11. The Conversation
12. Autumn Sonata
13. A Clockwork Orange
14. Eraserhead
15. The Tenant
16. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
17. The Long Goodbye
18. That Obscure Object of Desire
20. Nosferatu the Vampyre
21. F for Fake
22. The Mirror
24. Suspiria
25. The Wicker Man

I don't hate A Clockwork Orange. It's well made, it's unique and obviously powerful. But I just can't get past how deeply unpleasant it is, and not in that good way that just means it's effective. I found it a chore to get through and absolutely nothing about it makes me want to put myself through the experience again. Sorry, fans.

The People's Republic of Clogher
I can remember snaffling up pirate copies of A Clockwork Orange on VHS during the years it was banned. Hunting down stuff like that was much more fun pre-internet.
