My Man Godfrey

I predicted this would be the movie I liked the least, only because my taste doesn't normally trend towards the lighthearted. This ended up being a bit of an unusual viewing experience because I watched two different copies in two nights. I watched the black and white version first, and the first 15 minutes had me thinking I could love it. The opening scene at the dump is brilliant, and the background with the bridge is gorgeous. I loved the next scene at the party as well, but as soon as Godfrey started working as a butler, the movie settled in to more average territory for me. I ended up being very sleepy, and I struggled to maintain interest. I decided that I needed to watch it again in order to judge it fairly, so the next night I went with the color version. Right away I hated it. The opening scene that looked so beautiful before had been ruined. From then on, however, the movie clicked for me pretty well. One of the things I liked the most was having numerous strong characters who are given the proper screen time to make a mark. It's still not my kind of movie, but I enjoyed it. Most importantly, I think it is extremely well done. I think perhaps I could feel even more strongly about it in the future.

some of the people in B&W era should have atleast colours did them no favour

but i mean someone posted a pic of cornelia in colours a few pages back aswell and i envisioned her as this sort of Morticia character in all black and dark make up and dark hair. and the dress was light blue.

Save the Texas Prairie Chicken
cricket, I was waiting for you to watch it because I was really curious to see how you would feel about it. I had a feeling it wouldn't be a favorite for you in here, but you gave it this:
and that made me happy.

Yeah, pretty sure those people were always in Black & White.
I can still remember when I was a kid (and I was really little - but I remember this) my brothers telling me that everyone was in black and white back then. And I believed them (that shows how young I was). But I can still remember thinking - however a kid may think it - that that didn't make sense because if everyone was B&W then, why would my grandmother be in color now? Eventually I got the truth from my mother because it would bother me to the point where I'd have to ask her about it (whatever the nonsense may have been that they were telling me), but I always hated it when they'd do stuff like that to me. Even as a little kid I knew when someone tried to make me look stupid.

That reminds me of when I was a kid and I told my sister that if she swallowed a pit from whatever fruit she was eating, a fruit tree would grow in her stomach. She believed me, and panicked when she accidentally swallowed a pit one day.

haha. Brilliant comment Vamp. You explained a lot.

As a kid, meaning 5-7 years old i definitely thought that people in black n white films walked about in some weird constantly grey world. Not seen any proof that i'm wrong about that, so i'm pretty sure i'm actually correct and people who have memories before 1993 are just in denial.

let me know what you think if it,because ive only seen the one with p.hilton and the gang-i acually liked the consept of it but the rest was horrible-as to be expected

I'll post about it in either Rate The Last Movie or the 50's Countdown thread. You see anything with Price? I've only seen The House on Haunted Hill, didn't think it was amazing or anything but Price is so great to watch.

The thing isolated becomes incomprehensible
My Man Godfrey (1936)

Entertaining enough but nothing extraordinary.
I liked the script and the acting is nice! I had a problem with some characters: the mom, Angelika, is one of the most annoying characters I ever seen, and so is her protege Carlo.
The most interesting ones for me were Godfrey and Cornelia, the only pair with a minimum chemistry, and one I'd like to see more of it.
The ending is just ridiculous. There's not a single evidence that Godfrey likes Irene. When he says he has the "funny feeling" I thought it was more likely he was in love with Cornelia than the crazy blonde girl.
Some funny bits, but not my thing.

Trying Real Hard To Be The Shepherd
Dead Man's Shoes: This was good but so dour. The thing about ultra realistic films like this is they don't let you settle in even when not much is going on. This movie was super uncomfortable to watch but in a good way. I expected more gory violence but am glad for the level it was at. This movie is so realistic even the twist feels purely authentic. Not going to be a favorite but I won't forget it. Good nom by Camo.

One more left for me. Amour rewatch.

The thing isolated becomes incomprehensible
Lilja 4-ever (2002)

A very depressing and heavy movie.
I am in favour of the legalization of prostituiton in my country, and I've attended to many debates about it because it's a subject that interests me a lot. I think this is a good movie to add to that discussion, because it tells you a lot about the mind of a sex worker and the existence of human trafic.
About the movie: I loved the soundtrack. I had some trouble with the editing Mein Herz Brennt suffered. It's a great song and it didn't deserved that amateurish cutting but I liked the rest of the musical options.
I also loved the acting, especially by Lilja and Volodya, they have such a great chemistry I was actually rooting for Volodya to win her heart. The style of direction and cinematography fit perfectly with the movie theme which created a very dense atmosphere that pleased me a lot!
Finally, I get where the dream sequences in the last act of the movie come from, but I didn't like them! I didn't have a problem with this feeling very indie and low budget but those sequences go a bit too far.
A very nice movie!!!

Dude. If you want to watch some great movies with Vincent Price, just watch The Baron of Arizona and The Abominable Dr. Phibes.

Trouble with a capital "T"
Vincent Price was in some choice horror films in the 60s. My two favorites are:
Pit and the Pendulum (1961)
House of Usher (1960)
Both Roger Corman films and both based on Edgar Allen Poe's work.
