A Man Escaped by Robert Bresson. It says it all in the title, but the expected can oftentimes be exactly what is perfect---especially when the build-up is handled by a master like Bresson.
I wouldn't touch Avengers with a 10 foot remote control

My favourite movie ending is the one of District 9 because it transcends typical Hollywood conclusions. Instead of offering a neatly wrapped resolution, it leaves viewers with lingering questions and a sense of moral ambiguity. Wikus van de Merwe, undergoes a profound transformation throughout the story, from an unlikable bureaucrat to a sympathetic character. The ending serves as a powerful commentary on themes of prejudice, empathy, and the consequences of unchecked power. It challenges the audience to reflect on the complexities of the human condition and the consequences of our actions, making it a thought-provoking and memorable finale

Watchmen's ending greatly improves on the comic's. Most of the comic is brilliant, but the ending has the worst tone.
WARNING: spoilers below
In the comics, most of the characters just accept the atrocities with a shrug and immediately join the side of the worst people in the story, Ozymandias and the Comedian. Dr. Manhattan decides to become a God, and leaves without a bit of emotion.
In the movie, Dr Manhattan is full of sadness and guilt, while Night Owl rages against Ozymandias, hating him for what he's done, but more importantly hating all of reality. Hating how useless heroes are in the face of nuclear disaster, and how manipulation and weapons of mass destruction are the only things that can save the world.
Even the prideful Ozymandias accepts the beating, with none of the comic's bluster, left with a victory that will never be known or celebrated. Rorschach's journal probably won't bring down his overall plan, but it could implicate Ozymandias in the Comedian's death. Ozy accepting the beating suggests he might also simply accept his punishment for that crime.
And it nicely wraps up Jupiter's sorry without the forgiveness/love for the Comedian that's in the comic, but an acceptance of what's happened. He's not forgiven, but what he's done is accepted, and both Jupiters can move on.
