Round 1, Set 3
The Damned United (2009) vs This Sporting Life (1963)
(Seen neither.)
The Fighter (2010) vs Rocky (1976)
(The Fighter is very good, mostly thanks to Bale's great performance, but Rocky is as iconic as they come.)
Death Race 2000 (1975) vs The Longest Yard (1974)
(Love Death Race 2000, but I just watched The Longest Yard and might now consider it the best football movie I've seen. Great cast, the football game feels authentic, the understated humor is effortless, tons of great characters, Burt once again proves why he was the quintessential man's man. It reminded me some of Cool Hand Luke, as well.)
North Dallas Forty (1979) vs Rollerball (1975)
(Yet to watch the former, although it's been on my watchlist for awhile. Rollerball is solid if unspectacular.)
Cinderella Man (2005) vs Field of Dreams (1989)
(Cinderella Man is a great movie that never got proper recognition. I like Field of Dreams, but not as much as most seem to given its iconic stature.)
The Color of Money (1986) vs Breaking Away (1979)
(The Color of Money is one of my least favorites from Scorsese, although it's been awhile since I watched it. I mostly just remember Tom Cruise twirling his pool stick in seemingly every scene. Yet to see Breaking Away.)
White Men Can't Jump (1992) vs The Long Run (2001)
(I love White Men Can't Jump. Woody and Snipes have great chemistry, the dialogue is surprisingly strong, and it's the only time I've ever found Rosie Perez somewhat sexy. Haven't heard of The Long Run.)
Rocco and His Brothers (1960) vs The Karate Kid (1984)
(Not sure I've heard of the former. The Karate Kid has remained one of my favorite movies since I was a child.)
