I just rewatched Patrick Swayze's Three Wishes (1995) a few days ago. It's not a highly rated movie, but with the exception of one scene near the end of the movie, I liked it a lot. (The one scene I'm referring to is nothing bad or hard to watch. It's just a scene that didn't work well for me with the rest of the movie.)

I was browsing through a list of some of the top romance and rom-com movies from the 1990s, and I realized that either I missed a lot of them, or I just don't remember these movies.

Does anyone have any recommendations from this list, or any suggestions of other romance or rom-com movies that I might have missed? Thanks.

I haven't seen many of those. My favorite is Blast from the Past (1999) which I mini-reviewed on this thread, link on the 1st post.

This list is triggering marriage PTSD. Only half kidding. Some of these are pretty good. I have watched Hope Floats with my ex more than I care to admit. It’s a sweet movie and one that matches your sensibilities pretty well I think. Pretty Woman also just sticks out as something you should definitely watch. I’m not the biggest fan, but I think it’s a head above most rom-coms. Surprised you haven’t seen it.

The Bodyguard is in no way a RomCom, of course. Would not classify Practical Magic as a RomCom, either. Sliding Doors is more of a dramady. Hope Floats is a drama.

Of that list, Pretty Woman (1990) and Four Weddings & a Funeral (1994) are must-sees in my book, with My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) I'd slot just behind those two. Blast from the Past is very cute, Honeymoon in Vegas is pretty fun, Never Been Kissed is alright, One Fine Day is old fashioned but sweet enough.

My taste in RomComs is mostly different than your list (and not only because I cannot stand Adam Sandler). My favorites are...

These would be my recommendations from that list. Also this reminds me that there are some Richard Gere movies I need to revisit before I vote.

Back in the day, it was a popular movie. Not sure how I would feel about it now.

Dying Young was a good movie too.

Julia Roberts had a good run in the 90s.

I'm surprised that I haven't seen a few of these too, especially Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride, because I like Richard Gere, but I've never been much of a fan of Julia Roberts for some reason.


Thanks for the info about several of these movies. I thought The Bodyguard was supposed to be more of a romance/thriller, not a rom-com, but I've seen the trailer and it looks like it could be a good movie.

From your list, While You Were Sleeping (1995) is a lock for my list, and The American President (1995) and Defending Your Life (1991) also could make my list.

I've seen Groundhog Day (1993), As Good As It Gets (1997), and Notting Hill (1999), and I like them, but they're likely to just miss my list.

I've also seen Joe versus the Volcano (1990), L.A. Story (1991), French Kiss (1995), Grosse Pointe Blank (1997), and Rushmore (1998), but it's been so long since I've seen them that I don't remember much about them. I'll have to rewatch them if I get a chance.



I saw Sleeping With The Enemy a long time ago, but if I remember correctly, I thought it was overrated at the time.

I haven't seen Dying Young.

I cracked up laughing at that bit. It's the best part of the film, though I was the only person laughing in a full cinema, which I thought was weird and embarrassed the people I was with.

I'm hit or miss with Drew Barrymore. I watched The Wedding Singer today and I realized that I seem to like Adam Sandler's movies when she's in them. I don't know if it's because those are his better movies or if it's because she's very likable in rom-coms.

Several people recommended Four Weddings and a Funeral, so I bumped it up near the top of my watchlist.
I'm going to try to watch it some time this week.

I watched A Perfect World for a HoF a while back, and I liked it. I thought it was one of Kevin Costner's best performances.
I'm going to try to rewatch it for this countdown, but even though it's a good movie, I don't expect it to make my list.

For the most part those are the only Sandler movies I watch. Willingly, at least.

The only Sandler movie I watch willingly is Airheads.
