Movies that were a waste of time and film

Tools

I'd have thought the words "Ridley Scott" and "Robin Hood" would suffice.
Are you kidding?
You are questioning the worth of the director that brought us: Bkackhawk Down, American Gangster, Gladiator, Kingdom Of Heaven?

Sit Ubu Sit.... Good Dog
Stallone's 2000 take on Get Carter was one of the biggest wastes of film in my opinion.

Wow this movie sucked, and I really did not appreciate how much it sucked until HK recommended that I watch the Michael Caine version which still makes me sad that I did not know existed, the original get's a
, the remake get's a absolute 0.

Indeed I am. Though I've not seen KoH (and why would I?) the other three are all excellent examples of average.

I'd agree with HK, apart from dissing Gladiator. I thought it was one of his best.

Ridley's movies of late have been pretty mediocre. All flash, no bang.
KoH and Blackhawk were boring at best.
In truth, I had a copy of Blackhawk given to me as my mate had a spare copy, I threw it in the bin.

Shame really, when he's good, he's fantastic.
Hopefully his next project won't put the final nail in the Alien coffin (even though Resurrection saw to that 15 years ago), although, he's made his millions from the original already so I guess he's not got much to worry about really.

Either you don't care about action or you don't know what its is.
I really have a hard time talking to guys like you when you come out with boring for Blackhawk Down, that just happens to be one of the most intense and fast pased action war films of all time. Look up the word boring in the dictionary, or are you trying to emulate the late Gene Siskel,
who said that Scarface was boring. After that I stopped talking to him as he was trying to hard to be pretentious.

Not trying to be anything mate. I was giving an honest opinion of what I thought about Ridley Scott's recent films.

I thought Waterworld was a waste of time and film

Yes, no doubt, everyone has an opinion. It's not about you trying to be anything, it's about Ridley Scott being widely considered one of the best American action directors. The fact that you may disagree hardly matters to me. Just giving you a little heads up. I would think that those kind of comments could turn off some people to your opinions and I don't think that's really what tou want, at least from reading your previous posts.
It's obvious that on this forum there are people with diverging movie tastes and that's understandable, but when people bash movies or people that make them and really have nothing to back up their claim other than that just having an opinion, they kind of cross the tolarance line. If a director has done many films, he should be judged on the totality of his work as well as some outstanding movies that have received universal acclaim. In those kind of situations a person's negative opinion can only be described as questionable.

I loved Kingdom Of Heaven. It represents everything I love about that epic genre. But then again I love epics and era swords, blood and guts movies.
Who knows, maybe I was some sword wielding warrior in one of my past lives. Can ceratinly identify with the feeling of holding a sword.
Anyway, check out the movie and let me know what you think.

Black Hawk Down was pretty harrowing with great urban combat footage. It pretty much kept my interest. When the guys were trapped in the downed helicopter, I almost felt their sense of doom.

Ridley Scott hasn't done anything worth my time since the 80s, so I just assume he was martyred in my imagination and his new films don't exist.
Hmmm.........:

1982 - Blade Runner
1987 - Someone To Watch Over Me

1991 - Thelma And Louise
1992 - 1492: Conquest Of Paradise
1996 - White Squall
1997 - G.I. Jane
2000 - Gladiator
2001 - Hannibal
2001 - Blackhawk Down
2003 - Matchstick Men
2005 - Kingdom Of Heaven
2006 - A Good Year
2007 - American Gangster
2008 - Body Of Lies
2010 - Robin Hood
2012 - The Grey

He may well be widely regarded as one of the best American action directors, but all those people are wrong. Not because I disagree (although that's usually the reason) but because Ridley Scott's British.

Hmmmm... While a don't dislike everything on that second list, there's more than enough there to fuel WT's argument. With the exception of Matchstick Men (which my hatred for Nic Cage wouldn't let me see) and Body Of Lies (which I've heard pretty good things about) there's nothing there better than average at best.

I believe he's now an American citizen so I get to call him American

Well, I see we can agree on Nick Cage, although I wouldn't say I hate him,
why, I hardly know the guy.

Have you tried the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven - an improvement over the original cinema release. I've yet to see Black Hawk Down, but apart from Kingdom of Heaven I agree with you, his movies have been nothing memorable, for me anyway, since Alien and Blade Runner.

I'm hoping this changes that:

The Rodent, your opinions are fine and dandy.
