There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know.

Donald Rumsfeld

Churchill was asked after the successful Battle of Britain if this were the end. He replied It’s not the end, but it’s the beginning of the end. Brilliant.

I'm sure you know the quote but just mistyped. It's the "end of the beginning."

There is no evidence Freud actually said this. Still, pretty funny.

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain
Two of my favorite movie quotes come from the original Flight of the Phoenix (1965):

"Mr. Towns, you behave as if stupidity were a virtue. Why is that?"

"That's precisely what is wrong - he has remembered everything and learned nothing!"

(A powerful reflection on self-worth and relationships.)

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain
Just watched Fly Me to the Moon. Was reminded of a favorite quote by John Kennedy, from his September 12, 1962 speech at Rice University. (A snippet appears in the occasional real footage from that era.)

I've pulled a "because it is hard" paraphrase several times in business meetings over the years ...

And one of my favorite bits of wisdom and sarcasm, attributed to Oscar Wilde:

"It may be a sin to think ill of others, but it is rarely a mistake."

Of course, seeing it attributed to Wilde makes one wonder, since so much he didn't say is attributed to him. We prompts a repeat of what Yogi Berra might, or might not, have said: "I never said half the things I said."
