Donald Trump for President?

Even the smartest people have said or done dumb things. It's just that no one goes around recording us and throwing it back in our faces years later after the slip up.

The thing isolated becomes incomprehensible
Even starting with the premise that this is wrong, it would clearly be an example of some cultural or religious belief taking priority, or a difference in baseline morality, not a failure of intelligence. You said his IQ was low, and this isn't an example of that.

What it is an example of, I think, is the unfortunate human tendency to take political disagreements and extrapolate them to all other aspects of someone's personality. It's easier to imagine people we disagree with are dumb or evil, but they almost never are.
Sorry, but I won't respect someone who's racist or homophobic. I won't respect someone who say "there's no space for gay people and atheists in my country". I won't respect someone who ignores the latest scientific breakthroughs and states that being gay is a choice... I have a lot of political disagreements with the right wing politicians of my country and of another countries, but I can listen to them, I can disagree with them and still respect them. But homophoby is off the limit, it is a matter of ignorance and prejudice, not religious belief...

First, you didn't say you didn't respect him. You said he had a low IQ.

Second, the mere fact that you're seemingly angry at the suggestion proves the point: it wouldn't make sense to be mad at someone for being stupid, because they can't control their intelligence. Being outraged at the idea shows that you regard it as a failing of character, not intellect.

And third (unrelated to the two above), I haven't heard of the "latest scientific breakthroughs" you're referring to. As far as I know the nature vs. nurture debate isn't remotely settled in any area of human behavior, sexual or otherwise.

Also: he never said the thing you quoted about gay people and atheists.

Does falling for this mean you have a low IQ? Or is it possible for politics to lead people to poor conclusions based on things like confirmation bias, unrelated to their intelligence?

Homophoby is a matter of ignorance IMO, so yeah, I consider Cruz ignorant. The low IQ expression was a joke... But yeah, I consider that the Republican Party has a section (only a section, not the entire party) made of people that are even worse than Ted Cruz. That's why I said he is the guy with better chances when facing Hillary...

I get mad at the fact that he's able to influence others with his statements... And I wouldn't mind if he was against some gay rights that are being discussed now, like marriage or adoption, even if I am completely in favour of it. My gf is against gay adoption, I'm in favour, I never got mad at her, we discuss it sometimes and I see her point though I don't agree. But she doesn't dislike gays by principle, just because they're different and she definitely doesn't say they are like that because they choose. Too many people have suffered too much for being gay, to be a matter of pure choice and a statement like that is an insult for all that people.

The last stuff I read had me thinking that way, which wasn't a surprise, as homossexuality was already found in another animals...

I'm sorry, my bad. In my defence, I'm not used to so many misinformation and insults in elections on other parts of the world... American elections turn into a circus too many times for its own good...

Even so, his opinions on gay people are well documented. So, I mantain my opinion on him...

(And I never said I had a high IQ! )

It is just hilarious. Trump delivers a speech to Jewish supporters of Israel, reads a speech off a teleprompter for maybe the first time in his life, that he obviously didn't write and probably was reading in front of them for the first time, that contradicts everything he has been saying about being neutral about negotiating a peace, then makes comments to reporters later that contradicts what he said to them.

Looks like his quest to be more presidential and moderate still has bugs in it.

He is the bug in it. That's the problem. It's a bit like having one problem with a plan to jump into a fire and that problem being the whole jumping into the fire bit.

It's amazing that his supporters think of him as the guy who "tells it like it is" yet he's a prolific liar and panderer. As much as I appreciate a candidate who isn't a puppet for the two party system, it's kind of scary how effective bold faced lies are.

Yeah, it's pretty clear he is constitutionally incapable of moderating himself. Changing your behavior is hard enough, nevermind for someone wealthy who can surround themselves with enablers (and banish anyone who challenges them). Nevermind if that wealth is inherited, too. Throw in a dozen years of cultural reinforcement on reality TV, where your outrageousness was treated as a harmless amusement, and it's hopeless.

It's interesting to ponder how much of this stuff was an act, but eventually, you become the things you do day in and day out. It's who he is now.

Another example: he's asked about using nukes on ISIS, and starts talking about Jeb Bush:

This reminds me of him attacking Rand Paul weeks after he dropped out of the race. This is what rampant insecurity looks like (it also looks like covering everything you own in gold and repeatedly talking about how great you are, BTW).

Trouble with a capital "T"
I think we already have a wall down there don't we? I keep seeing it on those MSNBC promo spots that they show round the clock in airports.

I swear his main reason for building that wall isn't to keep anyone out or in. It's so he has another thing to put his name on.
Maybe every hundred miles in the wall there should be a big hotel and casino (with one side of it open to Mexico)!

Think of all the jobs that could create along the southern border!

I have to admit I find him tremendously entertaining. I never had that reaction to anyone else running for president. The closest was Arnold's run for governor. But he was only sporadically amusing once he was elected. Jesse Ventura apparently was also a big dud as governor in Minnesota.

It's a good thing most celebrities have little interest in running for high office.

Here is an article that looks at the electoral map the way I do. Trump has a better chance than Cruz winning based on it. He could also lose more states than Cruz who should hold on to the ones Romney won. But how does Cruz pick up enough to win when (this isn't in the article) he is to Romney's right, narrowing his appeal in the section of the country where he needs to pick up votes, the rustbelt, Midwestern states? Trump's populist appeal could have more resonance there. Trump's problem is he could lose some red states. Mormons hate him. He lost real bad in Utah and there was a poll there that showed him losing to Hillary Clinton.

You know who should build a wall? Canada! They need to protect their lands from being infected with a stupidity so widespread, were about to elect someone even less competent than George W.
