I cant believe this movie hasnt been released on DVD yet. Paramount has to be one of the slowest studios to release there movies. Has anyone heard if there is arguments over rights to the movie, or some other problem that is keeping it off the market?? Heck, it hasnt even been shown here on Tv in the last few years. It sucks to have to resort to vhs to watch one of the best christmas musicals ever made (IMHO).

Paramount are without doubt one of the worst studios for showcasing their flicks on DVD`s.

I own Scrooge (1970) on LaserDisc, in all it's 2.35:1 letterboxed glory.

I realize that doesn't help you out in any way...but nanny-nanny boo-boo just the same.

A novel adaptation.
I prefer the Bill Murray classic " Scrooged ", but I own both on VHS.

And yes, I do believe that there is some sort of legal "thing" going on what with the changing of the patent, and copyright
laws.

I've seen that many times before, mostly on the Superstation around Christmas, and it is very funny.

My review

My annual re-watch from last night. You have to love Sim's version of Scrooge as he transitions from a heartless tightwad to what is essentially a lovable big kid. The scene where he shows up at Fred's for Christmas dinner and they are singing Barbara Allen is one of the best in any movie and it gets me every time. One of the best acted scenes ever.

The scene where Fan dies in childbirth is also heartbreaking with Scrooge crying for forgiveness. This scene to me is the one that changes Scrooge for the better.

Also love the extra characters in this movie - Jorkin the corrupt businessman who provides some humor, the undertaker who keeps showing up and Samuel Wilkins who approaches Scrooge at the beginning looking for a loan extension.

My favorite verison of this classic Christmas tale. It never gets old. Just love the extra scenes and characters. 8.5/10
