Which movie is the better war movie?

apocalypse now is in no way a deeper movie. But the scenes in the movie are penetrating. The whole "into the heart of darkness" vibe is perfect for this movie. The pay off is spectacular. Coppola cornered himself into a position where the whole brando stuff had to work , otherwise the movie would have failed. But no matter how fat brando was ,his scenes worked.

Apocalypse Now by far, it might even be the best movie of all time.

Apocalypse Now is a great war movie, where as Full Metal Jacket is a good one.

Apocalypse Now and it isn't particulary close, imo.

I love Full Metal Jacket, but I'd give the edge to Apocalypse Now.

The first half of FMJ is the standout (thanks in no small measure to R. Lee Ermey and Vincent D'Onofrio), but overall, it's not even close - AN is by far a much better film than the whole of FMJ, imo.
