I am closing this thread and starting a new one from scratch. I can do better.

Over the next several weeks I plan to reveal my top 100 movies. i will list the name of the movie, the director, featured cast and a few comments on my likes and dislikes of the films. These films are my favorites, and makes no claim to be an objective list. I encourage discussion on the films

100. The French Connection 1971

Dir. William Friedkin
Featured Cast: Gene Hackman, Roy Scheider, and Fernando Rey
Likes: I thought a good story was aided by excellent direction, pacing and acting
Dislikes: No major dislikes
Other Comments: Hard to believe this was directed by the same guy who directed the Exorcist. Friedkin also directed To Live and Die in LA.

99. To Live and Die in L.A. 1985

Dir. William Friedkin
Featured cast: William Peterson, Willem Dafoe, Jane Leeves
Like: A solid action film with what I would call a creative edge.

98. Down by Law
Dir. Jim Jarmusch
Featured Cast: Tom Waites, John Lurie, and Roberto Benigni
Like: It takes its time to tell its slice of life story. Shooting it in B & W is fitting for this story.

97. Citizen Kane
Dir. Orson Welles
Featured Cast: Orson Wells, Joseph Cotton, Dorothy Comingore.
Likes From a technical viewpoint, one of the best films ever made. It is used in film class textbooks to illustrate what a film can and should be.
Dislikes. It is so far down my list, because I think their are many stories (plots) that are better than CK.

96. Juno
Dir. Jason Reitman
Featured Cast: Elliot Page, Jason Bateman, and Jennifer Gardner
Likes: Ellen Page projects a lot of charisma in this film. a great niche selection for a "coming of age" movie.

Dislikes: No real dislikes, but this is a niche film (written for a smaller audience) and not everybody will like it.

95. La La Land 2016
Dir. Damien Chazelle
Featured Cast: Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, and Rosemary DeWitt
Likes: I thought that the story breathed new life into the old song and dance formula of days gone by.

94. Moulin Rouge 2001
dir. Baz Luhrmann
Featured Cast: Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor, and John Leguizamo
Likes: This movie was something new in a time when Hollywood was beginning to rely on "safe material". (Remaking old films and sticking to formula and cliches).

93. Fried Green Tomatoes 1991
dir. Jon Avnet
Featured Cast: Jessica Tandy, Kathy Bates, Mary Stuart Masterson

Likes: Reveals the power of narrative as an agent of change, whether it be in a book, movie, or other medium.

92. The Man Who Invented Christmas 2017
dir. Bharat Nalluri
Featured Cast: Dan Stevens, Jonathan Pryce, Patrick Joseph Byrnes
Likes: A very imaginative account of how Dickens might have been inspired to write his story, The Christmas Carol.

90. Stardust Memories 1980
dir. Woody Allen
Featured Cast: Woody Allen, Charlotte Rampling, Jessica Harper, and Tony Roberts
Likes: Great Existentialists themes throughout., Used B & W film to great effect.

88. Mighty Aphrodite 1995
Dir Woody Allen
Featured Cast: Woody Allen, Mira Sorvino, F Murray Abraham
Likes:While I have read that some believe the Greek chorus to be a distraction, I thought it was a clever idea.

84. Young Frankenstein 1974
dir Mel Brooks

Featured Cast: Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman, Peter Boyle, Cloris Leachman, Terri Garr.

Likes: My favorite Mel Brooks/Gene Wilder collaboration.

83. Mindwalk 1990
dir. Bernt Capra
Featured Cast: Sam Waterston, Liv Ullman, John Heard
Likes: A very unique film. Almost entirely dialog among the three principal actors. It's main purpose seems to be to explain Systems Theory to its layperson audience.
