In this film, everyone who John encounters seems to have an actual past with John and find themselves conflicted regarding their relationship with him and its importance compared to their own self-preservation.

While Leitch moved on after the first movie, Stahelski has spent his entire directing career at the helm of the John Wick franchise, and his previously bold style has become calcified, losing much of its ability to surprise and delight.
