One must also consider how well Andor reinforced this idea: Those two works almost completely rectified the whole "now the Empire is just a comedic parody of itself" issue that was begun in earnest in Return of the Jedi (a weaker film, IMO).
see, this is precisely how i view Rogue One, through the lens of Andor.

that episode when we hear the TIE fighters before seeing them. man, i had never felt fear like that before. and the cohesiveness between the two works is outstanding!
