Half-watching films is kinda pointless. I almost never watch a film if I cannot rate it somewhere. My rating means that I have some opinion on it (even if it's a surface-level "it's normie shit" kinda one, it still symbolizes that I dedicated time to watching it and making that shallow opinion).
I do half-watch YouTube videos sometimes because I don't see them as works of art worthy of consideration. It's just content, fodder. If people (half-)watch films that way, it only says a lot about their respect for the art.
Yep, I have the same problem.
We talked earlier in a thread about not half-watching movies. I'm actually not against it, I'm just against half-watching and then pretending to have a meaningful opinion (or, God forbid, proclaim that opinion to others).
There are a lot of movies I haven't gotten around to watching specifically because my mode of watching films is to pay a lot of attention to them. In those cases I would rather watch TV or rewatch something I already know well, rather than watch a new thing and not be able to focus on it.

Yeah, the overarching point is that my choosing to watch an entertaining cookie-cutter (but still fun & good) film over rewatching a challenging masterpiece is precisely because I'm tired after work. It's not that I'd only watch THIS sort of cinema if I didn't have to work, but I'd watch more of it, etc.
Of course, I still watch more challenging films than 99.9% of the population, etc. etc., but even I could do better in that regard.

Thought experiments about pausing time are a really good way to ask what matters in life and what actually makes you happy. Particularly among everyday, affordable pleasures.
