The Shoutbox
After rewatching a masterpiece, every other film feels pretty bad. Hate that feeing.
There's that no-budget kung fu film that I like to quote. The translation goes something like:

- I'll tear your heart out!
- That's OK cuz I've always been heartless, anyway!
Well, that may be a good point (the phrasing could be improved), but anyway, I think he leaves a hole in the fabric of the world.

Same. It really hurts that the fires probably had a lot to do with that
I feel nothing, but I haven't had a heart for some time now.
I genuinely feel heartbroken that Lynch has died.

Tendencies that have clear, numerous exceptions are not fundamental differences. They're just tendencies.

And as I suggested, the "feel" that you're talking about is almost certainly just pattern recognition, very finely trained by consuming huge amounts of both things.
thank you for placing that period within the quote. my boss refuses to. and insists on double-spacing after each period. and he uses the space bar instead of tabbing indentations.

thank you for fighting the good fight.

There are always some outliers, e.g., is Twin Peaks: The Return or Berlin Alexanderplatz a film or TV series? The outliers always have to be analyzed on a one-by-one basis and there's always potential for disagreement.

But if you take a random YouTube video and a random film, the difference is obvious, even if you cannot articulate it, you can just feel it, and you don't need a sharp instinct either.
1) Hard to say. Curiosity is a good thing (I think one of the very best things), and it exists on a spectrum. So it's certainly bad to the degree I have it, but not bad overall.

2) I don't agree with the distinction. YT videos can have aspirations higher than films and films can have lower aspirations than YT videos. There's a broad correlation to be sure but there's no hard line between them. I think the intuitive sensing is based on massive media consumption that has led to very sharp instincts based on cultural tendencies and/or technical considerations, but does not reflect a genuine unpassable artistic divide.
