I'm getting Bioshock splicer vibes, and that's probably just from the music. Still, if they go with an asylum-staged performance where these numbers play out in the delusional fantasies of the two characters, that might be really fun. Much of Joker's experience was delusional anyway, so it's not that far of a leap to risk a few musical numbers, I don't think. Especially considering that Joker has already shed most of the connections that had anchored him to reality. Joker's interpretive dance in the bathroom after the subway incident followed, later, by his dance while walking down the stairway near his apartment have already planted seeds, if the viewer is willing to accept that progression into wherever the sequel leads.
I'd love to experience something so disjointed from movie going expectations. Not subverted, mind you. Disjointed. I mean, you're dealing with Joker's world view. Let's go crazy. OMG WAIT. 1989's Joker used Prince's "Trust" during the parade. It totally makes sense! I trust this plan.
