A French movie about unrequitted love

Hi my friends

Some time between 2001 and 2004 I watched a french (or european french-speaking movie) on a french-german tv channel called "arte" and here are all what I can remember:

1. The movie can be a 1960s, 1970s or 1980s (or even 1990s) one.
2. Its main characters are a severe father who is a scientist (may be he's wearing glasses), his wife, his two kids (who are brothers or siblings, I don't remember), living in a countryside, and the other main character is a young german scientist who was received and welcomed by the severe scientist in his house to help him translate his works and essays into german, and this german is called something like Schon Archer (But, I'm not sure at all).
3. This young german scientist will have a crush on the severe scientist's wife and he confessed to her when they were on car (she was driving, perhaps to show him the countryside), but she was refusing his proposals.
4. One of the scenes is when the severe father was reprimanding his son over his poor essay on literature or science pointing, among other things, to its lack of scientifical accuracy, the son was offended and run away, crying and ranting.
5. This young german scientist became like a family member, always close to the wife, for example he helped this wife (his crush) to read bedtime stories to her kids.
6. One of the scenes is when he brought gifts to each of the family members, then the father took his gift or his wife's gift and started walking alone with his thoughts.
7. The husband has to travel, may be for something that has to do with his researches, and when he was away, and after refusing his proposals throughout the movie, the wife finally gave a quick kiss to this german scientist and she immediately went away.
8. One of the housemaid's relatives noticed something between the wife and this german scientist, so the wife, fearing that her husband may know, when he will return home, she resolved to expel the housemaid and her relative, and the housemaid was crying, telling that she will be always missing the wife and her family.
9. Afterwards she expelled the german scientist as well.
10. Upon returning, the severe scientist was welcomed by his wife at the airport and while they were about to move on car she told him that she expelled the german scientist because he had some crush on her.

Ok guys, that's all what I can remember, thank youuuu

I found (probably) using IMDB filters. It's La maison des bories (1970).

MarioB13 wrote in December 1999 - so according to copyright, I used a quote:
The story? The husband is a scientific man. He's boring and severe with his wife and two children. The woman is the victim. She's bored with her husband and her life. And here comes the third one : a German translater. He's young, handsome, loves life and the children can play with him. You know what happens next! O.K., we saw that a thousand times in movies! But this simple French movie is very beautiful, because of the photography. Views of countryside looks like the works of a great painter. Indoor photography is also superb! This movie looks like Terence Malick before Malick. I really don't understand why the Internet movie database says this movie is like Le dīner de cons (1998)! It's not a comedy and had really nothing to do with this movie! If you want to compare, look at Jean Renoir's Une partie de campagne (but that Renoir movie was in Black and white!) Or compare it to any Malick picture.
