Sorry it took me so long to get around to this. I set my cable service to record it but it wouldn't actually let me watch it until yesterday. For the most part, it was a very enjoyable ceremony. We had the first father and son hosting team in the history of the awards with Dan and Eugene Levy nailing the hosting duties and getting more than their share of laughs. Once again, a lot of the nominated shows this year were shows that I had never even heard of and only one prime time network show (Abbott Elementary) received any nominations. The show seemed to move at a nice pace, but it still seemed about four hours long. Some history was made with the Shogun, a mini-series that won 18 Emmys in total, 14 in the creative ceremony the night before and 4 during this ceremony. And my curiosity was definitely piqued by a limited series called Baby Reindeer. And now for the specifics:

BEST PRESENTER BANTER: Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez; Kaitlyn Olsen and Rob McIlhenny; Sam Richardson, The quartet from SNL roasting Lorne Michaels; Billy Crystal

BEST ACCEPTANCE SPEECHES: Ebon Moss-Bacherach; Billy Crudup; Liza Colon-Zayas; Jean Smart; Alan Cumming; Paul W Downs (who I didn't realize until I watched this doesn't just play Jimmy on Hacks, but is a co-creator and head writer); Greg Berlanti, Richard Gadd

STRANGEST ACCEPTANCE SPEECH: Jeremy Allen White. First of all, he didn't look the least bit surprised or grateful that he won again (you know I hate that), but when he got up there, he seemed fiidgetiy and stumbling over his words like he was drunk or high or something. After he finished , he practically jogged off the stage, but went in the wrong direction and a stage hand had to come on stage and usher him off properly. Very strange.

FAVORITE SURPRISE WIN: Liza Colon-Zayas, Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy series for The Bear. Was very pleased to see her nominated and was even more delighted that she won. Also pleased to see Lamorne Morris win for Fargo...loved him on New Girl and never thought he got the recognition he deserved there when he stepped in for Damon Wayans Jr and it was nice to see him getting some Emmy love tonight.

FAVORITE PRESENTER LINE OF DIALOGUE ALL NIGHT: When Kathy Bates said, "Do you know how hard it was to get a date after Misery?"

AT LEAST TRY TO PRETEND TO BE SURPRISED: Just like Jeremy Allen White, Elizabeth Debicki was practically out of her seat before they called her name as Best Supporting Actress for The Crown...didn't even pretend that anyone else had a chance of winning the award.

MY TRADITIONAL IN MEMORIUM COMPLANT: Most of you know, I'm a real stickler about this portion of award shows and haven't been happy about the segment in quite awhile. It was going along quite nicely actually, even with the unnecessary vocals from someone I've never heard of name Jellyroll. As it rolled toward the end where we learned that Gena Rowlands, James Earl Jones, and Bob Newhart had passed. Suddenly Jimmy Kimmel strolls onstage and starts talking about how wonderful Bob Newhart was and how much we'll miss him. Why Newhart? Gene Rowlands or Ryan O'Neal or James Earl Jones or Louis Gossett Jr weren't worth talking about but Bob Newhart was? Don't get me wrong, I loved Bob too, but why did he deserve to get singled out like that?
