Interesting fact: there are two women named Gale starring in this film. I never thought of Gale as a common or popular name.

It's the earliest one I can think of, but there might have been an earlier, lesser known noir that did it first.

I've only seen Gale Storm in one other film, Abandoned (1949).

Could be. I was just looking it up, and Stray Dogs is mentioned as a precursor to buddy cop movies, but I don’t think one of them is retiring in that. It does have the different personality trope. Very interesting.
