Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Actually, Chaplin died when he fell during that scene. His twin brother took over for him and finished out his career in secret. You read it here first!

It wasn't his brother. It was Billy West.

That fat guy stuffing his face in the first scene looks familiar.

Smells mystical, doesn't it?

I love him and Paulette Goddard together

And when I'm all alone I feel I don't wanna hide
Below is Charlie Chaplin's first ever film as The Tramp, one of the most iconic and lovable characters in American cinema. I watched it earlier today. I'd recommend all fans of Chaplin to give it a viewing, providing you have yet to see it, of course:

I am burdened with glorious purpose
I don't know if this thread is still active, but...

Starting out, The Tramp is always a great way to start.

I'd suggest City Lights and The Gold Rush. They are incredible.

I think City Lights is a masterpiece in every sense of the word. The last moments of that movie are mesmerizing.

Chaplin is timeless. For anyone, young or old, who haven't watched him, take a chance and do it. I've turned 12 year olds onto Chaplin and they loved it. You'd be surprised how a movie almost 100 years old is still funny.

But not the first time he performed The Tramp on film. He first donned the costume for Mabel's Strange Predicament, but Kid Auto Races at Venice was released a couple days earlier.
