Incredibly Expensive Takeout Food

Tools

What's the most expensive you've ever paid for fast food/takeout? I was with my best friend yesterday at an air show for fleet week (military thing) and she paid 16 dollars for a crab cake. 16 DOLLARS.

About 30 dollars for the most expensive order (about 4-5 dishes).

Got Insomnia cookies delivered to the living room of the South while having whisky. Doesn’t really count, that was vacation money.

Who can explain Gold Belly?

From what I understand (possibly wrong), it's a lot like Postmates/Doordash, but in more urban areas, possibly from nicer places? I get the vibe it's a little more affluent. I don't think it's even available here in Pittsburgh, I never hear about it. The only time I do hear about it is on this game show thing set in Los Angeles where it's occasionally the basis for a prize.

Anyway, the most expensive meals I've had have overwhelmingly been places we went to and sat down at. Seems to "give back" a lot of the benefit of that cost to get a really nice meal and have it sit in a container and get driven home and all that.

Takeout can still be expensive but we don't do it much and it's rarely more than $20-30 a person even when we go to a slightly nicer place.

I was of the notion it was nationwide. The ability to get a local specialty delivered anywhere. I understand being of a certain means and justifying the cost. I don’t get who is ordering a philly cheesesteak and expecting it to be worth eating after a plane ride.

Fluffy Japanese pancakes for two: $46, IIRC.

In all fairness, they're pretty delish

It lets you order any kind of food (baked goods, meals, bagged coffee, etc.) from restaurants, bakeries, etc., across the U.S. The main draw of it is that famous and/or award-winning establishments use it. If you want a deep dish pizza from the most famous pizzeria in Chicago, for instance, Goldbelly lets you do that. I've really only used it for gifts or special occasions, because who has $100 to drop on tamales for a weeknight dinner?

I used it to make my most expensive takeout purchase: $50 set of macarons from a New York bakery for the missus.

It depends on what kind of tamales.

That seems like a good deal, unless it was two macarons.

Heh, there were six and she assures me they were delicious, so overall, a good investment.

We also ordered a New York bagel and cream cheese gift box from there. Another good investment.

Last time I got 7 pizzas for $84-a bargain

Taco Bell

$25-$30

Dogs split a taco, wife has about 3, and I get 5-7.

Last time I did take-out it was about $150 for 11 dominos 1 topping pizzas.

Now that the California government has mandated that burger flippers get skilled worker level wages, even fast food has become unaffordable.
