Guy Maddin's filmography is littered with creative genre breaking films and Rumours is right up there with it. The basic premise is the G7 go off for a day long meeting the woods completely alone and while they are gone something happens.

This film is weird, hilarious and at times touching. Each member of the G7 is given their own arc/personality that would fit in a teenage horror film from the 80's. Canada is the bad boy, France is the fat idiot, Italy is the scared, US is the old pompous ass (who's british for some reason), Germany is the final girl, UK is the nerd, and Japan is the ethnic friend. It's a weird film but it works...it's mostly a comedy with the humor is very off-putting and I did genuinely laugh at loud at some of the situations. This isn't for everyone but it's unforgettable.

Elevated Horror



Another dystopian future horror film from George Lucas. Taking place is some sort of ultra-coroporate nightmare everyone is drugged police are robots and you can lose your spouse at any time. The gay-panic scene between Pleasence and Duvall I think had kept the film from getting more of a re-release but still I liked this one. Lucas plays with a lot of science fiction ideas that he didn't use in Star Wars.

Visually Lucas does a great job spinning this yarn. Some of the settings are really effective and tension building. I do wish we had a bit more to the film the second act where everything is in an all-white hellscape could have been played longer and for better scares...but still I enjoyed this one.
