You like Family Plot too? Coooooollll....

Well, whats the decision LIfe Of Brian or Holy Grail?

I thought I'd add to this old thread ... wasn't around when the thread was current ... sorry 'bout that.

I've gotta say still love the Holy Grail. So with that in mind, this is my list:

1. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
2. Young Frankenstein
3. National Lampoon's Animal House
4. Annie Hall
5. Monty Python's Life of Brian
6. Blazing Saddles
7. Sleeper
8. MASH
9. Heaven Can Wait
10. Silver Streak

hmm ... is there a theme here? Monty Python, Woody Allen, and Mel Brooks?

  1. They Call Me Trinity Lo chiamavano Trinità... 1970
  2. The Jerk 1979
  3. The Bad News Bears 1976
  4. Slap Shot 1977
  5. The Longest Yard 1974
  6. The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean 1972
  7. Heaven Can Wait 1978
  8. Richard Pryor: Live in Concert 1979
  9. Bugsy Malone 1976
  10. My Name Is Nobody Il mio nome è Nessuno 1973

Honorable mentions:
  • The Hot Rock 1972
  • Grease 1978
  • Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory 1971
  • California Split 1974
  • Silver Streak 1976
  • Paper Moon 1973
  • American Graffiti 1973
  • Thunderbolt and Lightfoot 1974
(Still have a high stack of 70s Comedies that I need to catch up on. So I will likely be back for an update.)

Harold and Maude
Next Stop, Greenwich Village
Annie Hall
The Last Detail
Stroszek
Made For Each Other
The Yellow Handkerchief
Blume in Love

Harold and Maude 1971
McCabe and Mrs Miller 1971*
Dog Day Afternoon 1975*
Kings of the Road 1975
The Life of Brian Brian 1979

not a comedy decade imo

*not a comedy, but has humorous moments and I'm struggling

I don't actually wear pants.
I haven't seen many good ones. However, the Monty Python films are awesome, and Life of Brian is probably the best comedy ever, so it'd easily take my top spot for the 70s. Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein are hilarious too.

Using Letterboxd filters for help

1. Young Frankenstein
2. Annie Hall
3. Amarcord
4. Life of Brian
5. The Phantom of Liberty
6. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
7. Harold and Maude
8. Love and Death
9. The Heartbreak Kid
10. Diary of a Mad Housewife

Others - Rock and Roll High School, Blazing Saddles, Sleeper, the Jerk, Support Your Local Gunfighter, Paper Moon, The Model Couple

The Yellow Handkerchief is listed as a comedy? I remember finding it moving, maybe the rapey guy in the cowboy hat was supposed to be the comedic relief... guess I need to watch it again (it was a goodie), or maybe someone here can remind me?

Things I liked as a teen but haven't seen in a while - do they hold up? Animal House, Murder by Death, Meatballs, Oh God, The End, Up in Smoke
