Thanksgiving in Canada is just another long weekend (the second Monday in October). Americans make in a multi-day thing.
Do Americans work this coming week?

I know from experience that in many places, very little actually gets done during the week, even when people show up to the office - but YMMV!

Most businesses around here (New York) are normal business hours Sunday - Wednesday, but on Thursday, (Thanksgiving Day), most businesses either close early or they're closed all day for the holiday.
Then on Friday, most businesses go back to normal business hours, except for the retail stores that open early and close late for Black Friday sales.

My work is closing early on Wednesday and will be closed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (we're always closed Sundays). I have some vacation time left for the year so I'm taking Tuesday and Wednesday off, which means I'm only working tomorrow and will be off the rest of the week.

Strictly speaking, Thursday and Friday are "work holidays," meaning most of us working stiffs get it off. Businesses will be open or closed on Thursday all day (24 hour drive-through) or half day (say, the hardware store that closes early) or closed all day (the mom and pop diner). Most are open again on Friday. Many folks cash in some vacation days between the Monday before and the Monday after to extend the weekend. Many will at least send people home early on Wednesday. Even though it wasn't company policy, when I was a manager I tried to shoo everyone out at noon on Wednesday (because I'd feel guilty leaving early if anyone else was still there!).

My wife works Monday, Tuesday, and has a half-day on Wednesday.
But I agree that not a lot gets done, particularly on Friday (which is the day most people get off, other than Thursday, I think).

I'm always working, the hours are good but the pay sucks
Here in Pennsylvania, schools are off next Monday too because it's the first day of deer-hunting season.

Thanksgiving Day seems bigger than Christmas for Americans, imo. One of those things Canadians marvel at. Europeans don't get understand Thanksgivings Day at all.
Christmas is like a fever that overcomes everyone for weeks, especially my wife, is already putting up decor and playing Christmas music.
Oh, and I am for sure working this week.

Not accurate at all. For pretty much everyone I know, Thanksgiving is just a big dinner at the family's place, followed by coffee and pie, and maybe watch a football game before heading home for the night.

Personally, I'd like to see Christmas relegated to more of a Thanksgiving-type of holiday by doing away with the whole gift-giving thing (at least for adults).
I'm sick of fighting crowds (or even ordering online) to buy things that no one wants or needs, that end up on next year's yard sale tables or get thrown away because you don't know people's food allergies.
Here's Jim Gaffigan on gift-giving...
