Have you seen this year's I Saw the TV Glow? Same director. I thought
WARNING: "we're all going to the world's fair" spoilers below
We're All Going to the World's Fair was good capturing of alienation and pain, and I totally missed it was a trans-allegory. I still think it works well as a story of alienation, though it's been a couple years since I saw it. The theme of I Saw the TV Glow seems much more difficult to miss. Would recommend.

It is high up on my list of films to see. We'd discussed watching it tonight but instead opted for the directors earlier film which we also had been meaning to watch.

Just as a heads-up, there's a good chance I might be laid off early next year. If it does happen, I may have to eliminate or minimize my presence here for the time being since getting myself back on track should take priority over movies/online discussion boards/servers at that point. It won't be a goodbye though. If I do end up getting laid off, I'll be sure to let you guys know before dipping.

Or, you could have all the time in the world to settle all the really important questions in the world with the people who really matter. Right?

Seriously tho, that's terrible news. Sorry to hear it.

Okay, it felt weird to thumbs up this post, but it is an emotionally supportive thumbs up!

Please let us know if there is anything that we can do to support you, even if you just need a kind message from time to time. I have a friend who works for a company that she knows is sinking (they've laid off like 60% of the staff and just split the same amount of work between the remaining 40%), and I know that the looming "will they, won't they" can be incredibly stressful. Please take care of yourself! We really value you as a fellow movie lover and a friend.

Ugh, that sucks. Good luck, fingers crossed!

That sucks. I guess, fingers crossed, and update your resume and be looking regardless. Companies are known to go through multiple waves of layoffs. Which, granted, depending on the industry, other companies are also probably going through layoffs... okay, this is doom spiral reasoning on my part - these situations suck.

If you do find yourself with a lot of... unpaid, self-managed time, remember to exercise and take care of yourself. It helps manages some degree of stress.

Oof. I hope you manage to avoid it, but if it happens, may it be temporary. Until then, we’ll save the aisle seat for you and have a tub of popcorn waiting upon your return.

Sorry to hear man. Do what you gotta do to take care of yourself. Horror movies and horror crammers will always be there for when you’re ready.

I will say, a horror movie where no one speaks does sound intriguing. A bit like Valhalla Rising (which did have some dialogue as I recall, just not from our lead).
One of my favorite Twilight Zone eps has virtually no dialogue until the end.

Victim of The Night
Sorry to hear that my friend. I hope it doesn't happen or that it takes you somewhere better.

Sorry to hear that. Companies are so insidious about that kind of stuff lately. The holiday season is supposed to be a joyous time, isn't it? Why put that worry into your head during it? Hoping for the best possible outcome.

Don't worry, we will send emotional support your way and we'll all root for you to find a better spot. We'll keep an empty seat for your return!

I did not have "watching baby Mothra do couples therapy for Godzilla and Rodan" on my December bingo card, but here we are!
Huh, I thought that Mothra and Godzilla were a thing, and Rodan was more of the grumpy on again off again friend.

I'll be sure to give I Saw the TV Glow a watch sooner rather than later. I was planning on leaving everything alone for Black Friday/Cyber Monday, but then I saw Max being on sale for six months and had to bite.

Rodan and Godzilla were fighting, and baby Mothra had to be like "YA'LL!!!! That other monster is about to destroy the whole planet will you please stop acting like babies and get it together!".

Anyway, Mothra (in both larval and moth form) is the closest thing I've seen to a high quality role model in a movie this month.

Finally had another movie night with my friend and we watched a couple good ones.

Heretic (2024) is superbly suspenseful with great performances from all of the leads but particularly Hugh Grant who really seems to be enjoying his villain phase. It just ratchets up the tension bit by bit, cutting that with bursts of almost absurdist humor, and it works so well. Highly recommend for those who like their horror on the atmospheric and cerebral side.

Double Blind (2023) is about a drug test that goes horribly awry leading to it's subjects dying if they fall asleep. It's got a great dreamlike atmosphere and plays with the characters hallucinations and mental state to good effect. I have a soft spot for films that play with reality and the sleep deprived characters make that super convenient to run with, but I also think they handle it really well.

Both films were definitely more on the creepy side of things rather than out and out scary but then again I probably prefer that as far as horror goes anyway.
