I just watched this for the first time recently (last month) on... Amazon Prime streaming, I think it was. I loved it. Did the humor and oddball nature of Chazz Palmintiri's gangster... slowly becoming an art critic and writer not vibe well for you? I thought it was hilarious and such a different type of film. I do love me some Woody Allen though!
Overall good vibes, Palminteri's character was hilarious indeed, I'm still neutral on Allen bc I haven't seen a lot of his films yet. So Bullets Over Broadway is in my top five Woody Allen at the moment.

So many great heist films, but this is on my short list of maybe four or five in the running for the greatest heist film of all time along with The Lavender Hill Mob, The Killing, The Taking of Pelham 123 (kind of ), and Drive (also, kind of).

The last 10 minutes are perfection.
Nice to see another heist film lover. All the ones you mentioned are featured on my heist top 100 which I should be sharing but keep procrastinating. Maybe 2025..

I was just compiling a to-watch list of 90s movies and one of them is Bullets Over Broadway. Never seen it, hopefully I'll like it.

AWAKENINGS 1990 Penny Marshall (re-watch)

2h 1m | Medical Drama
Writers: Oliver Sacks, Steven Zaillian
Cast: Robert De Niro, Robin Williams, John Heard, Penelope Ann Miller, Ruth Nelson, Max von Sydow

Hoffman, Rain Man.. DDL, My Left Foot.. Hanks, Forrest Gump.. all performances that are extremely difficult to pull off. However De Niro in Awakenings manages to successfully portray a character that has a medical condition with five or six different stages, increasing the difficulty level significantly. If you have an appreciation for acting in films and have some room left on your ballot for the 90's Redux. Please don't forget Awakenings. (Featured on Mofo's Top 100 Films Directed By Women at #13.)

1h 42m | Mystery | Drama | Thriller
Writers: David Giler, Lorenzo Semple Jr., Loren Singer
Cast: Warren Beatty, Paula Prentiss, William Daniels, Hume Cronyn, Kelly Thordsen, Earl Hindman, Jim Davis, Jo Ann Harris

Victim of The Night
I left Awakenings feeling perplexed because DeNiro came out of his "coma" looking immediately like he was gonna whack Robin Williams but then the moment never came.

To me De Niro looked like he was getting more and more friendly / normal / cheerful even, in the first couple of stages of the condition, right after his comatose state.

FRAILTY 2001 Bill Paxton

1h 40m | Drama | Thriller
Writer: Brent Hanley
Cast: Bill Paxton, Matthew McConaughey, Powers Boothe, Matt O'Leary

Came out in 2001 but had more of a 90's film look and feel. Good directorial debut by Bill Paxton.

I have seen The Wave and The Quake. I need to find The Burning Sea.

ELIZABETH TAYLOR: THE LOST TAPES 2024 Nanette Burstein

1h 40m | Documentary
Cast: Elizabeth Taylor, Debbie Reynolds, Richard Burton, George Hamilton, Rock Hudson, James Dean, Eddie Fisher, Mike Todd, George Stevens, Dennis Hopper, Edward R. Murrow, Paul Newman, Marilyn Monroe, Yul Brynner, Stevie Wonder.

Less glorifying and more self critical than expected.

ALONE IN THE DARK 1982 Jack Sholder

1h 32m | Horror | Thriller
Writers: Jack Sholder, Robert Shaye, Michael Harrpster
Cast: Jack Palance, Donald Pleasence, Martin Landau, Dwight Schultz

Howling Mad Murdock from The A-Team was the most sane character in this film. While Jack Palance and Martin Landau went full Cuckoo's Nest.

WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU 2008 Brian Goodman

1h 40m | Drama | Thriller | Crime
Writers: Brian Goodman, Paul T. Murray, Donnie Wahlberg
Cast: Ethan Hawke, Mark Ruffalo, Amanda Peet, Donnie Wahlberg

Decent True Crime heist flick set in Boston. Ruffalo and Hawke's performances saved it from mediocrity.

MONEY MONSTER 2016 Jodie Foster

1h 38m | Drama | Thriller
Writers: Jamie Linden, Alan DiFiore, Jim Kouf
Cast: George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jack O'Connell, Dominic West, Giancarlo Esposito

Good effort and socio-political message from Jodie Foster. The third act however, left much to be desired.

EUROPA REPORT 2013 Sebastián Cordero

1h 30m | Science Fiction | Thriller
Writer: Philip Gelatt
Cast: Anamaria Marinca, Michael Nyqvist, Sharlto Copley, Daniel Wu

Decent low budget Sci-Fi Thriller.
