Agreed. In terms of music specifically written for movies the original Star Wars trilogy is certainly up there. I'll add Twin Peaks and Waking Life

Ooh Jaws has some good music too. Indiana Jones' films have good music as well.

I like the music in Burton's Sleepy Hollow also.

Obvious, but necessary -- Blade Runner

John Williams is a monster.

The LotR score is insane.

If you put a gun to my head, I guess I'd go LotR right now.

Oh dang I forgot about Blade Runner. Yeah its music is great too.

The original Godzilla and Return of Godzilla have grandiose musical scores as well.

I just realized I went with scores and not soundtracks. Oops. Can mine still count?

I mean, Saturday Night Fever is the first one that leaps to mind.

Oh yeah, Big Chill is great. I grew up on that soundtrack, helped shape my whole thing.

I'm listening to the soundtrack to Forbidden Planet (1956). It's absolutely one of my favorite soundtracks.

The Theremin is to Sci-Fi what the Duduk is to Middle Eastern (Western-produced) film scores.

Often I prefer movies not to have a soundtrack or at least not an oppressive one. I'd say Blade Runner the original theatrical version had one of the most beautiful and effective soundtracks.

Depends on the film, though. If it is fantasy-adventure, then give me booming John Williams.

Without Ennio Morricone's music, it's just Eli Wallach running silly through a graveyard.
